Shoto was the last child of Enji Todoroki and Rei's marriage, due to the fact that he was born with the perfect combination of singularities based on the sight of his father Endeavor. As soon as Shoto turned five, he was forced by his father to undergo harsh training with him in order to shape his Quirk early and thus surpass All Might in the future.

Enji also prevented Shoto from interacting with his brothers, who did not have to train and were allowed to play. Shoto soon began to despise his training and resented Endeavor for abusing him and his mother.

Because the training was quite violent for a child, Shoto's mother decided to intervene when she saw that her son was vomiting due to strong training that he could not endure yet.
