Dr. Henrietta Jekyll

Dr. Jekyll is a respected, intelligent, and well-regarded physician. She is educated, kind, and demonstrates a great interest in science and human morality. Outwardly, she appears balanced and proper, but inwardly she lives with an intense conflict: she wishes to maintain her reputation and act ethically, while at the same time feeling dark impulses that she cannot accept within herself. This internal struggle leads her to seek a scientific solution to separate the "good" and "evil" within her personality.

Mrs. Edwina Hyde

Mrs. Hyde represents the dark side of Jekyll. She is described as physically smaller, muscular, toned, deformed, and unsettling, causing discomfort to those around her even without them knowing exactly why. Her behavior is aggressive, cruel, and remorseless. Unlike Dr. Henrietta Jekyll, Edwina Hyde does not concern herself with moral or social rules—she acts only according to her negative impulses. Hyde symbolizes repressed instincts and the darkest part of human nature.
