Meeting with Doga and Tragedy (1841)

In 1841, Jinta turned seventeen. He went into the forest on a mission from the elders to destroy a demon terrorizing the area. This demon turned out to be the Doga-no-Oni, an ancient creature possessing immense power.

The battle was hard. Jinta suffered numerous wounds, but he prevailed. As he lay dying, Doga laughed and uttered a prophecy: "Your sister will bring destruction to this world. You will live forever and watch everything you love turn to ashes."

The demon transferred its power to Jinta. The young man's body transformed, becoming demonic. He lost consciousness.

Jinta woke up and smelled smoke. He rushed to the village and saw Kadono burning. Suzune stood at the center of the blaze—an adult with demonic eyes. Shirayuki's body was in her arms.

Jinta tried to kill his sister, but failed—he wavered at the last moment. Suzune vanished, leaving his brother among the ruins of his former life.

The Rise of Jinya (1841–1851)

After the tragedy, Jinta renounced his name. He became Jinyo—a "night guardian," a demon hunter. For ten years, he wandered Japan, battling evil spirits and searching for his sister.

In Edo, rumors spread of him as the "immortal demon-slaying ronin." He took on commissions from temples and villages, slaying demons, but found no peace.
Journey Through the Ages (1851–present)

Jinya lived for over 170 years. He witnessed the fall of the shogunate, the Meiji Restoration, world wars, economic miracles, and technological revolution. Each era brought new losses and new trials.

He met people who became dear to him, and then lost them. He had an adopted daughter, Nomari, who grew up, married, and died of old age while he remained young.

Childhood (1824–1833)

Jinta was born in 1824 in a small mountain village. His father, Juzo, was a cruel man. His mother died giving birth to Suzune when Jinta was about six years old. After her death, his father began drinking and taking his anger out on his children.

Things were especially hard for Suzune, who was born with a dark secret: her biological father was a demon who had raped her mother. Juzo knew this and hated his daughter, considering her "cursed." Jinta, the older brother, constantly protected his sister from their father's beatings.

In 1833, when Jinta was nine and Suzune was seven, the children decided to run away. One winter night, they fled their home, taking only a little food and an old blanket. They trudged through the mountains for several days until they were exhausted.

Kadono Village (1833–1841)

The emaciated children were found by Motoharu, a hunter and protector of the village of Kadono. He brought them to the village, where his wife nursed them back to health. Motoharu adopted the children and raised them as his own.
