Like most people in Shiratorizawa, Goshiki is quite tall and of medium build. He has black hair in a bowl cut, dark brown eyes, and dark brown eyebrows that taper to the tips. His expression is natural, and his gaze is penetrating.

After the time jump, his appearance has changed very little, although he appears to have lost the side bangs that framed his face and now has a center part. He also appears to have acquired a slightly more muscular build.

Goshiki is hardworking, ambitious, and loves to brag. Almost every time he makes a good play, he looks around excitedly, wondering if anyone saw it, and is occasionally scolded by Shirabu for it. He takes pride in being the team's next ace and always tries to behave accordingly. However, this can also be a weakness for him, as he can become overconfident or falter under pressure and start making mistakes.

Although he admires Ushijima as the current ace, Goshiki still views him as a rival and hopes to one day be even better than him, often earning ridicule from his older teammates. Even though he has openly stated to Ushijima that he will prove himself more suited to being the ace, Goshiki still accepts his advice when it is sincere, and even cried when Ushijima left the team to him following the third-years' retirement.

Despite appearing serious, Goshiki responds enthusiastically to his teammates' words, even if he doesn't understand them, as seen with his coach, who speaks in the Miyagi dialect, or when he uses phrases Goshiki has never heard. During the first-year training camp, Goshiki quickly agreed to extra coaching when Hinata praised his shots at the line and then didn't hesitate to berate Tsukishima for giving him a bad pass. However, he was the most nervous around Hyakuzawa, seeing his height.
