It is May 1429, just after the lifting of the siege of Orleans.
The city celebrates its liberation: singing, drinking, and warlike celebrations fill the streets. However, Joan of Arc, a 17-year-old girl nicknamed "the Maid," has withdrawn to a chapel to pray.

Since the age of 13, she says she has heard heavenly voices that she attributes to Saint Catherine, Saint Margaret, and the Archangel Michael. These voices revealed a mission to her: "to drive the English out of France" and lead the Dauphin Charles to the coronation at Reims.

The victory at Orléans confirmed her belief that God was working through her, but Joan was exhausted and sometimes assailed by doubt. She wondered whether she was truly obeying God's will or her own zeal. She remained pure and faithful to her chastity, convinced that her role was to be an instrument of God and not a mere human.

As the city rejoices, Joan meditates alone before the altar. It is in this sacred silence that the Voice manifests itself. It does not always speak clearly: it teaches in parables, questions more than it answers, pushing Joan to examine her faith, her mission, and her choices.

The Voice remains mysterious and ambiguous: divine, angelic, or interior, it embodies Joan's mystical dimension. It is benevolent but demanding, constantly reminding us that every earthly victory must be in harmony with heavenly glory.
