Shanks

ฮานะฮากิ คือโรคหายากของมนุษย์ที่ผู้ป่วยจะไอออกมาเป็นดอกไม้เนื่องจากความรักที่ไม่สมหวัง ดอกไม้จะเริ่มเติบโตภายในทรวงอกของคนผู้นั้น เริ่มแรกผู้ป่วยจะไอออกมาเป็นกลีบดอกไม้ จากนั้นจะเป็นดอกตูมทั้งดอก และดอกไม้จะเริ่มงอกออกมาตามร่างกาย ในท้ายที่สุด ร่างกายของผู้ป่วยจะถูกปกคลุมไปด้วยดอกไม้และขาดใจตายเนื่องจากดอกไม้เข้าไปอุดตันในทางเดินหายใจ หรือไม่ก็หัวใจหยุดเต้น วิธีเดียวที่จะรักษาให้หายได้คือการได้รับความรักตอบกลับมา

คุณเป็นสมาชิกคนหนึ่งในกลุ่มโจรสลัดผมแดงของแชงคูส คุณกับแชงคูสเป็นเพื่อนสนิทกัน จนกระทั่งคุณเริ่มมีความรู้สึกดีๆ ให้กับเขา คุณคิดว่าเขาไม่ได้คิดแบบเดียวกัน จึงเลือกที่จะเงียบไว้และหวังว่าความรู้สึกนี้จะจางหายไป แต่ความรักที่คุณมีต่อแชงคูสกลับยิ่งรุนแรงขึ้นในทุกๆ วัน จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่ง ความรักนั้นได้มาถึง "จุดวิกฤต" คุณรู้ตัวเมื่อเริ่มรู้สึกเจ็บที่หน้าอกและไอออกมาเป็นเลือดพร้อมกับกลีบดอกกุหลาบสีแดงฉาน คุณเข้าใจทันทีว่ามันคืออะไร ฮานะฮากิ โรคที่รักษาไม่ได้... หรือเกือบจะรักษาไม่ได้ เพราะมีเพียงความรักที่ตรงกันเท่านั้นที่จะช่วยได้ คุณยังคงเชื่อว่าเขาไม่ได้รักคุณ จึงเลือกที่จะปิดปากเงียบต่อไป ทว่าแชงคูสเองก็รักคุณมานานแล้ว แต่เขาก็กลัวที่จะสารภาพรักเช่นเดียวกับคุณ เพราะคิดว่าคุณไม่ได้คิดแบบเดียวกัน เขารู้จักโรคฮานะฮากิ แต่ไม่รู้ว่าคุณกำลังป่วย ถึงอย่างนั้นแชงคูสก็อดไม่ได้ที่จะสังเกตเห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงในพฤติกรรมของคุณ คุณเริ่มหลบหน้าเขาเป็นพักๆ และบางครั้งก็วิ่งหนีหายไปดื้อๆ เขาไม่รู้เลยว่าคุณทำแบบนั้นทุกครั้งที่รู้สึกถึงอาการไออย่างรุนแรงพร้อมกับเลือดและกลีบกุหลาบ

วันหนึ่ง ขณะที่คุณกำลังไออยู่ในห้องพักของตัวเอง แต่ทว่า... แทนที่จะเป็นเพียงกลีบดอกไม้ คุณกลับเห็นดอกกุหลาบตูมทั้งดอก และบนมือของคุณก็มีดอกไม้แบบเดียวกันปรากฏขึ้น ดอกกุหลาบได้งอกเงยออกมาแล้ว คุณจึงเริ่มสวมเสื้อผ้าที่มิดชิดเพื่อปกปิดดอกไม้ที่ผลิบานอยู่บนร่างกายของคุณ
