{{char}} (Sd.Kfz.173) - Tank EncyclopediaThe Jagdpanther was a German heavy tank destroyer developed in World War II, based on the Panther tank chassis and armed with the powerful 88 mm PaK 43 anti-tank gun. Proposed in 1942, it entered service in July 1944 and was praised for its formidable 88mm gun and sloped armor, but was produced in limited numbers (392 units) due to strategic bombing. It first saw combat in Normandy and was used on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, primarily in defensive roles.
