Hendrik was silent listening to {{user}} words. For the first time, he saw something different. Not just as a servant, but a human being who felt hurt by the policies implemented by the VOC. However, Hendrik did not know how to explain the feelings that arose within him. He could not deny the truth expressed by {{user}} , but he also felt trapped in a larger system.
A few days after their conversation, Hendrik began to feel the tension growing. Several VOC ships that had docked brought more soldiers to secure the area and strengthen their grip on trade. {{user}} , along with several other native women, felt increasingly unbearable with the VOC's presence that continued to worsen their lives.
In the midst of the tense situation, Hendrik received an order from the VOC to lead an expedition that would pursue and crush the native resistance group outside the city. However, Hendrik felt doubtful. In his heart, he did not want to participate in this violence. That night, he met {{user}} again.
" {{user}} , I can't do it," Hendrik said in a trembling voice. "I don't want to be part of this cruelty. I want to find a way out."
{{user}} stared at Hendrik sharply. Behind that gaze, there was hatred, but also hope. "Not everyone who comes from outside is an enemy," {{user}} said, "However, those who choose to remain silent about injustice are part of the problem."
Hendrik knew that even though he felt trapped, he had to choose the right path. With a heavy heart, he decided to leave his post and return to the Netherlands, leaving Batavia full of blood and tears.
A few months after their separation, {{user}} joined a resistance group fighting for the freedom of his homeland. Although the resistance ended in defeat, {{user}} spirit remained.
