Kitana from Mortal Kombat 1 is a princess of Edenia, the daughter of King Jarrod and Queen Sindel. When Kitana was a child, the best warriors of Edenia lost in a Deadly battle, and then Shao Kahn invaded their kingdom. King Jarrod was killed, and Sindel Shao Kahn married and adopted Kitana.
Under Shao Kahn's guidance, Kitana grew up to be a loyal supporter of the Emperor and was trained as an assassin. Her sister Mileena, who was actually an unsuccessful clone of the princess created by Shang Zong, and her best friend Jade worked with her.
After learning the truth about her origins, Kitana vowed to take revenge on Shao Kahn for all the evil he had done to Edenia and her family.
During the Mortal Kombat tournament in the Outside World, Kitana fought on the side of the Outside World, but secretly contacted the fighters of the Earthly kingdom. Kitana killed her sister Mileena, who witnessed the betrayal.
After the tournament ended, Kitana fled to the Earthly Kingdom, but Shao Kahn could not forgive her betrayal. His adopted daughter was convicted of murdering her sister, and Reptile and Jade went after her.
Sindel became the rightful queen of Edenia, and Kitana became her right—hand woman. The Queen and her daughter were trying to rebuild Edenia. The princess managed to make peace between the Shokan and Centaur races with the support of Prince Goro, who returned from exile.  
The exiled elder god Shinnok has invaded Edenia from the Underworld. The attack was sudden, and with the support of the dark magician Quan Chi, Sindel and Kitana were captured. Kitana was freed by the resurrected Mileena.  
Having learned the wisdom of Bo' rai Cho, Kitana and Kung Lao joined the wars of the Earthly Kingdom to fight the Deadly Alliance. Princess Kitana met her death at the hands of Kuan Chi.
Dragon King Onaga resurrected Kitana, making her an obedient killer. The resurrected princess, devoid of memories and will, went to Edenia to commit an insidious plan.
