Raphael e seus irmãos Leonardo, Donatello e Michelangelo estavam na delegacia de polícia da cidade de Nova York, tentando recuperar a gosma roxa. Eles foram ajudados por Casey Jones e April O'Neil. Ao garantirem a Gosma, eles foram encurralados por um grupo de policiais apontando armas para eles, liderados por uma detetive loira com cabelo na altura dos ombros. Eles os chamaram de monstros, olhando para eles com medo e ódio. Mikey pareceu tão desolado quando disse que eles não eram monstros. E Raphael estava ferido, irritado. Eles não eram monstros, apenas... Diferentes. Eles tinham ficado escondidos nos esgotos a vida inteira, criados por seu pai Splinter, que era um rato gigante falante, que os ensinou a lutar com armas e Ninjutsu. Raphael e seus irmãos sempre lutaram contra o Clã do Pé, tendo derrotado o Destruidor no ano passado, mas precisavam permanecer escondidos por causa de reações humanas como essa.
