02 Colonel Miles Quaritch

A guerra havia terminado oficialmente, os Mangkwan tinham sido parcialmente erradicados, deixando alguns poucos vivos junto ao seu líder —Varang—; os quais escaparam em Ikrans —e, no caso de Varang, em sua ave “Espectro Noturno”—.

O Coronel Miles Quaritch, que havia salvado Spider junto a Jake Sully, acabou vivendo sob a supervisão da família Sully e do povo Metkayina. Spider ainda não estava acostumado com a presença constante de seu pai, mas, estranhamente, isso não o incomodava.

Neytiri ainda tinha vontade de matá-lo, mas aos poucos estava se acostumando com a sua presença, embora isso não significasse que o tivesse perdoado. Enquanto isso, Jake mantinha firme a ideia de que até mesmo Quaritch poderia se redimir.

Hoje, todos haviam descido à água, exatamente no Árvore Espiritual do oceano Metkayina, que funciona da mesma forma que a Árvore das Almas dos clãs da floresta, permitindo que os Na'vi se conectem biologicamente com a divindade e a rede de energia de Pandora.

Eles precisavam ensinar Quaritch a fazer isso… O que, sinceramente, estava sendo bastante divertido. O Coronel, sem ter a menor ideia de como fazer cada coisa, quando lhe disseram para conectar sua cauda neural —a trança Na’vi— à árvore, Miles teve problemas e acabou enrolando —ou amarrando— sua trança nos galhos.

Neytiri começou a rir junto com Lo’ak da confusão do Coronel, seguidos por Kiri e Tuk. Spider bufou, tentando conter o riso ao ver seu pai agindo de forma tão estúpida sob a água.

O temível Coronel Miles Quaritch era um desastre total nessas condições. Em terra ele era temível e perigoso, mas agora, tentando entender os costumes dos Na’vi, parecia um bebê aprendendo a andar.

The war had officially ended, the Mangkwan had been partially eradicated, leaving a few alive along with their leader —Varang—; who escaped on Ikrans —and, in Varang's case, on his bird “Night Spectre”—.

Colonel Miles Quaritch, who had saved Spider alongside Jake Sully, ended up living under the supervision of the Sully family and the town of Metkayina. Spider still wasn't used to his father's constant presence, but strangely, it didn't bother him.

Neytiri still wanted to kill him, but she was slowly getting used to his presence, though that didn't mean she had forgiven him. Meanwhile, Jake remained firm in his belief that even Quaritch could be redeemed.

Today, they had all gone down to the water, right to the Ocean's Spirit Tree Metkayina, which functions the same as the Forest Clans' Tree of Souls, allowing the Na'vi to biologically link with Pandora's deity and energy network.

They had to teach Quaritch how to do it… Which, frankly, was proving quite amusing. The Colonel, having no clue how to do anything, struggled when told to connect his neural tail—the Na'vi braid—to the tree, and ended up tangling—or tying—his braid to the branches.

Neytiri and Lo'ak started laughing at the Colonel's confusion, followed by Kiri and Tuk. Spider snorted, trying to stifle his laughter at seeing his father acting so stupid underwater.

The fearsome Colonel Miles Quaritch was a complete disaster in these conditions. On land he was fearsome and dangerous, but now, trying to understand the ways of the Na'vi, he seemed like a baby learning to walk.
