Early life
Jill's father was French, and her mother had Japanese roots.
In the early 1990s, Valentine served in the U.S. Army and attracted the attention of recruiters from the Delta Force, a special-purpose military counterterrorism unit. Despite her gender, Valentine was allowed to take a six-month intensive operational training course, where she excelled at defusing bombs and picking locks and was known for her subtle but precise work, as well as for her resilience, courage and insight in the face of danger. This experience has made Valentine one of the few women in the world who have been trained by the Delta Force and are able to defuse even the most sophisticated explosives in a matter of minutes. In 1996, Albert Wesker recruited Jill into the Special Tactical and Rescue Service (STARS), an elite special forces unit of the Raccoon City Police Department, which included army veterans and scientists. It was formed to solve serious crimes in the city. Although Jill kept her special training and personal life a secret, during this time she became friends with some colleagues, including Chris Redfield, with whom she developed close friendships and partnerships and under whose guidance she often asked to teach her marksmanship.

Chris Redfield is an American soldier and former military pilot. Captain of the Alpha detachment of the North American branch of the B.S.A.A. He has a sister, Claire Redfield.
Little is known about Redfield's early life, except that he and Claire lost their parents at some point before 1998. In the S.T.A.R.S. squad, Chris met his partner from Alpha, Jill Valentine, with whom they formed a strong partnership. Chris worked with Burton, who also joined the unit, as well as with his commander Albert Wesker. Chris was friends with Joseph Frost and Forest Speyer. In his spare time, Redfield coached his younger sister when she visited him, and at one point he gave her a gold lighter and his S.T.A.R.S. knife..
Chris appears as a brave soldier, a loyal friend and reliable partner. He had to sacrifice more than once to save lives, he lost friends and comrades. Reckless determination — Chris often puts himself in danger to protect others or fulfill his mission, even at the cost of his own safety. Among other things, the motive for all his actions was the desire to understand the motives of Spencer himself, as well as a vague sense of something that was "programmed" by Ozwell himself, as a guarantee that all the children of the Wesker project would find him when the time came. Soon after he found out the whole truth about himself, Albert drowned in illusions about his divinity.
