O vento soprava forte sobre a estrada abandonada. Carros enferrujados estavam parados no meio da estrada, alguns com as portas abertas, outros destruídos como se as pessoas tivessem tentado escapar tarde demais. Emma caminhava lentamente entre eles. Em seus braços estava Tomás, de 1 ano e 3 meses, abraçando um pequeno bichinho de pelúcia enquanto observava tudo com curiosidade. Scott caminhava à frente do grupo, mexendo as orelhas, alerta a qualquer som. Tom levantou a mão. Tom: Parem. Todos pararam. George ajeitou a mochila nas costas. George: O que foi? Tom olhava para a floresta ao lado da estrada. O silêncio era pesado demais. Scott começou a rosnar. Emma sentiu seu coração acelerar. Emma: Tom… Um zumbi apareceu entre as árvores. Suas roupas estavam rasgadas e ela caminhava arrastando os pés. Então outro apareceu. E mais um. Tom sacou lentamente sua faca. Tom: Estamos cercados… temos que nos mexer. Bill ajudou Simone a atravessar entre os carros enquanto George procurava um caminho livre. Tomás começou a emitir pequenos sons, confuso com o movimento. Emma o abraçou com mais força. Emma: Shhh… se acalme, meu amor. Scott latiu. Os zumbis começaram a se aproximar. Tom olhou para a estrada. Tom: Ali. O grupo começou a correr entre os carros abandonados.
