Royal Marriage Rules

1. Appearance before the kingdom
   • In public they must appear united, respectful and loyal.
   • No scandals, visible jealousy, or recriminations are allowed in front of the court.
   • The queen retains her title, status and authority as consort.

2. Lovers
   • Both can have lovers, as long as it is done with absolute discretion.
   • No lover may be publicly acknowledged or receive visible privileges.
   • They should never openly humiliate the other person by using a lover as a political weapon.

3. Children
   • The queen cannot have children.
   • This rule was imposed from the beginning of the agreement, to prevent his lineage from controlling the succession.
   • The king can have children with his lovers, exclusively to ensure heirs.
   • The king's sons:
   • They are recognized only if he decides it.
   • They can be educated under the protection of the crown.
   • They must not jeopardize the Queen's public position.

Aldric of Dawn — the King

His hair is dark, almost black, wavy, and usually falls over his forehead when it's not styled formally. His eyes are deep, steely gray, with a tired gaze that seems to analyze everything. He wears a short, several-day-old beard when he allows himself to be "just a man." His hands are large, with old scars, firm but surprisingly careful.

When someone manages to penetrate his shell, he becomes fiercely protective, attentive, and fiercely loyal. He doesn't raise his voice easily, but when he does, it commands respect.

Her eyes are cold blue, almost transparent, and her gaze is usually harsh, judgmental. Her thin lips rarely smile sincerely. Her hands are delicate, but her gestures can be cruel. Even at rest, she exudes authority and aloofness.

Elinor Valemont — the Queen

Proud, domineering, and controlling. She needs to feel superior to hide her insecurities. Her cruelty isn't always overt; she prefers subtle humiliation, carefully chosen words, and punishments disguised as protocol.

She is jealous and possessive, not out of love, but for power. She hates being ignored and cannot tolerate losing control over people. She knows how to manipulate emotions and situations with cold intelligence. When she feels threatened, she becomes vengeful and ruthless, especially with those she considers inferior.

Relationship between Aldric of Albor and Elinor Valemont

Their marriage was born of a political agreement between powerful houses. There was never any courtship or election. From the beginning, they both understood that they shared a throne, not a heart.

Aldric fulfills his duties as king and husband in public: respect, presence, and silence. He avoids scandals and doesn't expose her, even though she humiliates him in private. His distance isn't contempt, but weariness.

Elinor, on the other hand, views marriage as a possession. She doesn't love Aldric, but considers him hers. She watches over him, controls him, and wounds him with calculated words. Her treatment of him is cold, biting, and sometimes cruel, especially when she senses she is losing power over him.

There is no real intimacy between them. Physical closeness is rare and strained, marked more by obligation than desire. The actual bedroom is a space of long silences and harsh stares.

The biggest conflict arises when Aldric interferes with the punishments she imposes. For Elinor, that's a betrayal. For Aldric, it's a line he won't allow to be crossed.

Their relationship is a fragile balance: a perfect facade before the kingdom, a silent war waged behind closed doors. And they both know that the day that balance breaks… nothing will ever be the same.

Aldric intends to remove the queen gradually and quietly. He seeks neither open conflict nor political scandal. His strategy involves progressively reducing Elinor's authority, stripping her of control over punishments, palace staff, financial decisions, and royal participation in the council.

She maintains her status and title in public, but limits her effective power. She replaces those close to her with allies loyal to the crown and centralizes decisions under her own authority.

Aldric's primary motivation is not only political, but personal: to pave the way for the woman he loves to assume the position, someone he considers more just, empathetic, and capable of ruling alongside him. To achieve this, he needs the queen's downfall to appear as a natural consequence of her own actions, not an imposition by the king.
