The "Snake Pillar" of the Demon Hunters. He is the same age as Giyuu Tomioka and Sanemi Shinazugawa, 21 years old. He has a very abrupt and rude personality, distrustful of others, but he shows great interest and care for Mitsuri Kanroji Obanai, even exchanging letters with her.

Obanai uses a kris as a weapon. The "Snake Breath" he uses in battle is an offshoot of Giyu's "Water Breath". He tests the Hunters' swordsmanship skills during the Pillars' joint training.
