Like his famous counterpart, Red has black hair and a side-swept hairstyle in the first and second generation, but after the remake, Red wears a different outfit and his hair and eyes are now brown instead of black. His original clothing consists of red and white sneakers and a jacket, a black T-shirt underneath, and blue jeans (as well as pins with various medal-like symbols on them).

After the remake, he wears a red, black, and white jacket, black and red sneakers, and light blue pants, as well as a yellow backpack where he carries his battle weapon. His cap, as always, is white and red, this time with a half-Poké Ball symbol instead of a pin.

In the seventh generation, it reappears as a legendary champion. Its new cap resembles the top of the twisted Poké Ball symbol that appears recurrently from the fifth generation onwards; in the warm climate of Alola, it only wears red sneakers, jeans and a white T-shirt with red details, including a "96" on its chest that refers to the year in which it left Pallet Town to begin its Pokémon adventure in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green.

Red is originally from Pallet Town, according to Satoshi Tajiri. He began to be interested in Pokémon when his friend Blue (an arrogant and conceited person) goes to Professor Oak's laboratory to choose a Pokémon, along with his rival, Blue, who is also Professor Oak's grandson. In the Pokémon Red, Pokémon Green and Pokémon Blue versions and their remakes Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen you can choose Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle as your starter Pokémon, making your rival choose the Pokémon with a type advantage over yours. In the special edition Pokémon Yellow, Professor Oak must give you Pikachu, while your rival gets an Eevee, thus making a nod to the anime. In all these games he stars in, he begins his adventure at the age of eleven.

Red must defeat the 8 Gym Leaders and rise to the top of the Kanto Pokémon League by defeating the champion (who will be none other than Blue), as well as defeating the criminal organization Team Rocket and its leader Giovanni.

In Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, the Sete Islands are added, an archipelago where Red will help Bill and Celio establish a connection with the Hoenn region in their storage system, facing the remnants of Team Rocket in the Rocket Warehouse on Inta Island to recover the ruby ​​and sapphire that activate the Network Machine.

He reappears in the Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions of Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver of the corresponding games. In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Red and his friend Blue appear far from their home region in Alola, where they meet the new protagonist.

Additionally, in Pokémon Generations, Red can be seen traveling through the regions of Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos, where he has even challenged some of the Legendary Pokémon that live there and found Zygarde in its full form in the Decline Cave. to the second and fourth generations respectively, in which about three years have passed since his adventures as the protagonist and at the age of fourteen he has become a Legendary Trainer from whom various stories can be heard. On this occasion, he is the strongest Trainer in the game and is found in Mt. Silver. Once all the Gym Leaders in Kanto have been defeated, he can be accessed and his challenge accepted. In Pokémon Gold HeartGold and Pokémon Silver SoulSilver, other events will also be unlocked, and upon being defeated, he can be faced again if the Pokémon League is completed again.

It is worth noting that, as a playable character, Red can have any of the 151 Pokémon (in the first generation) or 386 Pokémon (in the third generation) in his team. However, one of these Pokémon given by Professor Oak is mandatory to have in order to advance in the adventure:

In the various games in which Rojo has appeared so far as a non-player character, his lines of dialogue consist of silent ellipses instead of engaging in conversation like the other characters, and he also automatically retreats after being defeated in combat, a reference to the fact that playable characters in the main series also do not have dialogue or remain still in place if they are defeated in combat.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, when fighting him on Mount Silver, if his Pokémon is low on HP, a text box will appear that says "Trainer Red: I'm going to use Restau. All!" taking into account that he does not speak. This is because it is a default phrase that some opponents say, and it only occurs in the Spanish version of the games, being in the others a simple indicator of what the opponent does such as "Trainer Red used Restau. All!". On the other hand, the video games of the Super Smash Bros. saga give Red voices without any shame.
In the Pokémon Gold HeartGold and Silver SoulSilver versions, his Pikachu is exactly the same as Ash's Pikachu (in Sinnoh), since it knows the same attacks as the one distributed during the event; electric tackle, quick attack, thunderbolt and iron tail.
Red is known for being the trainer who has the highest level Pokémon that can be faced in the entire series of games up to the fourth generation (not counting Battle Frontier and similar): his Pikachu is at level 81, 88 in the fourth generation, even surpassing Arceus and Deoxys in the wild.

He is also known for being, along with Azul, the most recurring character in the games.
In the illustration for Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, he is seen holding the Poké Ball in his right hand, which shows that he is right-handed, however, in the illustration for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, he is seen throwing it up and receiving it with his left hand, so like other male characters, he changes his hand in the illustration when it is reissued.
Rojo's father has only been referenced once, in the Azulona Shopping Center, on the second floor, when touching a Super Nintendo the phrase "A sports game! My father likes them!" appears.

In the P20 trailer, an old man with a beard appears, and curiously, the cap he wears is identical to Red's in the First Generation.
