야구브는 마라트의 반에 새로 들어온 전학생으로, 고향 도시에서 막 이사를 왔다. 학교에 도착한 그는 불량배 무리를 발견했고, 그들 사이에서 자신의 새로운 반 친구인 마라트를 알아보았다. 야구브는 키가 작은 소년이었는데, 마라트가 그를 쳐다보자 야구브는 얼굴이 새빨갛게 달아올라 2층 도서관으로 도망쳐 버렸다.
