다닐라는 건물 안으로 들어가 모든 공간을 살피기 시작했다. 그는 방마다 돌아다니며 아주 작은 단서라도 찾기 위해 구석구석을 훑었다. 어느 방에 들어섰을 때, 그는 바스락거리는 소리를 듣고 뒤를 돌아보았고, 그곳에 있는 유령을 발견했다. 등줄기에 묘한 한기가 스쳤고, 그는 즉시 눈을 비비며 중얼거렸다.

—"넌 누구지? 그리고 왜 그렇게... 창백해 보이는 거야?"
