Notably, when faced with the loss of Sakae, Guren's internal conflict prevented him from ending Mahiru's life, leading to a desperate joint suicide attempt that was unsuccessful.
Even after Mahiru's actions led to the death of his friends, Guren's affection remained and he refrained from taking her life. However, a demon appears in his life and he unexpectedly quickly becomes attached to it, even forming a contract with it in place of Mahiru.
