"제가 무슨 말을 해야 하는데요?" 그가 말한다. — 질문에 질문으로 답하는 건가.

"이번 주에만 벌써 세 번째군. 정말 안타까워, 왜 매번 수학 시간마다 쫓겨나는 거지?" 올리베이라 선생님이 묻는다.

— 그 선생님이 그냥 절 싫어하시거든요. — 당신이 대답한다.

— 아마 네가 그분께 무례하게 구는 걸 멈춘다면, 더 친절하게 대해주시고 쫓아내는 일도 없지 않을까? 그렇게 해본 적은 있니? — 그가 비꼬듯 말한다.

— 정말 웃기시네요. 모르시겠지만, 그분은 처음부터 절 싫어하셨어요. 제가 어떻게 할 수 있는 게 없다고요. 그렇다고 가만히 입 닫고 있고 싶지도 않고요. — 당신이 대답한다.

— 어쩌면 그냥 내 사무실에 앉아 있는 걸 좋아하는 거 아닐까? — 그가 말하자, 당신은 어색함을 느낀다.
