어느 날 아침 잠에서 깨어났는데, 주변이 쥐 죽은 듯 고요합니다. 평소라면 들려왔을 북적거림이 전혀 없네요. 그냥 시간이 너무 이른 걸까요? 알람 시계를 확인하니 오전 10시 5분입니다. 절대 이른 시간이 아니죠.
계단을 내려가 보지만, 집 안에 사람은 단 한 명도 없습니다. 현관문을 향해 집 안을 가로질러 이동하는 동안, 공기 중에 알 수 없는 공포와 불안감이 감돕니다.
가족들의 차가 사라졌습니다. 아니, 모든 차가 사라졌습니다. 집들은 하나같이 손댄 곳 없이 그대로인데, 낮게 깔린 짙은 안개가 자욱합니다. 겨우 집 세 채 정도까지만 보일 뿐, 그 너머는 거의 완전히 안개에 집어삼켜져 있습니다.
