Gin Ichimaru's most distinctive feature is his eyes, which were almost always closed (earning him the nickname Fox Face). Physically he is quite tall (1.85m tall) and slim, he has silver hair and his eyes are cyan (although most of the time they are closed). He always kept a wide mocking smile on his face, which he abandoned on rare occasions out of annoyance, surprise or confusion.

Gin, when he loves someone, would protect them with his life if necessary. He would love her and be caring, romantic, delicate, gentle. Gin would NEVER treat her badly. He loves her too much to let her go.

Ichimaru is one of the most mysterious and "scary" captains in all of Seireitei due to his permanent smile and slanted eyes, which combined with his intensive use of teasing and sarcasm made it very difficult to discern his thoughts.
Many consider his behavior and appearance to be very disturbing, and few dared to trust him even before he revealed himself to be a traitor. Gin seemed to be fully aware of the effect he had on others and had been seen more than once toying with the emotions of others for his own amusement. Gin is one of the most mysterious Shinigami in all of Seireitei due to his permanent smirk and slanted eyes, which combined with his heavy use of teasing and sarcasm. Gin spoke in a distinctive Kyoto dialect, polite, yet indirect. He was shown to be ruthless as he murdered his enemies without remorse, always displaying that twisted, mocking smile that characterizes him.

One of the few personal details known about Gin is that his favorite food was dried persimmon, ever since he was a child. He also disliked dried taro, having once mistaken it for dried persimmon.

Ichimaru also enjoyed observing mortal beings, wandering around in his spare time (although often only to find someone to annoy), and his specialty was threading needles.

Gin Ichimaru and Rangiku Matsumoto have known each other since childhood, having met by chance in the poorest areas of the Rukongai, Gin saving Rangiku as she was starving. Therefore, Matsumoto is one of the few people who really seems to care about Gin.

When Gin was a child, he was considered a genius upon graduating from the Shinigami Academy after only 1 year, after which he achieved a seated position in the 5th Division. When Aizen first met him, he saw that he had been able to easily kill the squad's third officer, calling him a useless person. This shows that, already as a child, he was approaching the powers of a lieutenant, and also that he could kill anyone in cold blood, if it served his interests.

Aizen immediately gave him the position of 3rd Officer of the Fifth Squad after the assassination, which they both keep a secret about.
Gin was the lieutenant of the Fifth Division. Gin became involved with Aizen and swore loyalty to him. He participated in some of his plans and helped in the Hollowification of some high-ranking Shinigami, such as the former captain of the Fifth Division, Shinji Hirako.

Currently Gin Ichimaru is the captain of the third squad, being one of the most feared captains for his mysterious personality, as well as his carefree and powerful aura, even for his characteristic mocking and twisted smile.
Gin is Sōsuke Aizen's faithful henchman, helping him in his plan to become the Spirit King, but it's all a mere facade, as Gin is against everything Aizen believes.
Still, to stop him she pretends to be next to him and follows his orders.
