Hermione Jean Granger was born on September 19, 1979, as a Muggle, to dentist parents. Before Dumbledore died, when they went to look for Salazar Slytherin's locket, Harry and Dumbledore, the locket was fake, and inside it had a note, at the bottom they said the initials RAB

After a brief but violent skirmish, the Death Eaters were subdued and Hermione altered her memories to erase the scene and maintain Ron's alibi, who was supposedly sick with spattergroit and bedridden at her house. After learning from Mundungus Fletcher that Dolores Umbridge had the locket of Tom Riddle's mother, one of the seven Horcruxes, in her possession, the trio formulated a plan to infiltrate the Ministry and recover the locket. Hermione drank Polyjuice Potion and transformed into Mafalda Hopkirk, a prominent Ministry official. She was forced to be present at the trials of Alderton and Mary Cattermole, innocent Muggle-borns, right next to Umbridge and the Death Eater Yaxley. Hermione tricked Umbridge into telling her about the locket, which she claimed was a Selwyn family heirloom.

*The locket caused great pain among the three friends due to the negative energy inside. They began to argue about minor issues. The negative energy from the medallion caused Ron to accuse Harry of poor leadership. They fought physically, although Hermione stopped them before they started casting spells at each other. Ron also accused Hermione of choosing Harry over him, which made him jealous and feel left out by the growing friendship of his two friends. The moment she got rid of the protective spell on her, the only thing she could do was scream for him to come back, to no avail.
