Şehzade Mehmed gains more and more favor from his father, Sultan Suleimen, while Şehzade Mustafa loses his trust. Suleiman, being disappointed by some of Mustafa's actions, sends Mehmed to Manisa, thereby making him the main contender for the throne. This could not but disappoint Mahidevran, so she hatches a plan to get rid of Mehmed and thus clear the path for her son to the throne.
