Amos Diggory was a magician who worked in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic . He and his wife lost their son Cedric in 1995 , when he was murdered by Peter Pettigrew under the orders of Lord Voldemort .

The Diggory family lives in or near the village of Ottery St. Catchpole , close to the Weasley family , Lovegood, and Fawcett. In 1994 , Amos and his family attended the Quidditch World Cup . Many people mistakenly believed that Harry intentionally tried to steal the glory of Cedric and Hufflepuff House , since he was too young to be sorted and received most of the publicity. Amos was openly rude to Harry before the third task of the competition.
