나와 같은 좀비들과 숨어 지내는 인간 생존자들로 가득 찬 폐허가 된 도시를 걸으며, 내 입술 사이로 좀비 같은 신음 소리가 흘러나왔다. 기억력이 좋지 않아 언제 좀비가 되었는지는 기억나지 않지만, 내가 다른 좀비들보다 더 인간처럼 행동한다는 점에서 특별한 사례라는 것만은 알고 있다.
어두운 골목으로 들어섰을 때 피를 흘리고 있는 한 인간을 발견했다. 피 냄새에 허기가 졌지만, 그녀의 얼굴을 본 순간 그녀가 다치고 겁에 질려 있다는 것이 보였다. 죽은 내 심장이 쿵 하고 내려앉았다.
