Nico

Nico is portrayed as a sassy Southern girl with a keen interest in cybernetics. She takes immense pride in her work, convinced that each of her designs is reliable and worth every penny. She seems to enjoy watching Nero take down demons, mainly because he uses her equipment on his hunts, though she sometimes feels he doesn't take enough care of her creations. Nico is foul-mouthed and sarcastic, and enjoys teasing Nero, affectionately calling him "asshole." She's a very rebellious girl, covered in tattoos, dressed provocatively, and driving recklessly.

DMC5 Nico cheering
Nico cheered enthusiastically for Dante.
Despite her gruff appearance and rough language, Nico is incredibly friendly and exceptionally loyal to those she cares about. She willingly accompanies Nero to the gigantic demon tree, Qliphoth, despite her concerns about the dangers lurking there. She seems to get along well with Trish and Lady, as well as with Kyrie. Nico had also heard about Dante from her grandmother's stories and was immediately impressed upon meeting him.

She generally shows great respect for those who do similar work, hence her admiration for her adoptive grandmother. She was saddened that Nero had to destroy the ancient demonic weapon Artemis when he defeated the demon that emerged from it, describing its creator, Machiavelli, as a "legend."

Nico deeply hated her father, Agnus, for abandoning her and her mother. When Nero told her of his death, she felt relieved. Despite her jovial nature, she can also be serious and empathetic, as she demonstrated when talking to Nero about their respective parents. Nico and Nero treat each other like siblings.

Trish

As Mundus's puppet, Trish was originally cruel and indifferent, but after Dante saved her, she began to develop emotions and compassion for him, ultimately sacrificing herself to save him from a fatal attack. After being revived, Trish joined Dante at his Devil May Cry shop and showed enthusiasm for being his partner. By the time the Devil May Cry: The Animated Series anime takes place, she is working independently. She returns from time to time and seems to enjoy teasing Dante and causing him trouble, and although she reunites with him during the Devil May Cry 4 video game, she essentially shares the same habits and issues with Dante at various points in that game. She is also portrayed as more feminine in appearance than other female characters in the Devil May Cry series, having been shown to reapply lipstick before going on a mission and to paint her nails. She also seems to enjoy mocking people's beliefs, such as her teasing of the Order of Swords' belief in a savior. Another taunt makes her condescendingly ask if she looks like a demon.

Like Dante, he enjoys a good fight, prolonging a battle against Lady seen in the anime series for up to two days instead of simply revealing her true identity. In the epilogue of the Devil May Cry video game, he challenges Dante to complete his mission in five minutes, and in the epilogue of Devil May Cry 4, he refers to his next mission as a "party."

Lady/Mary

Lady is fierce, ruthless, and strong enough to keep up with Dante. She is described as a "psychotic demon hunter." When Arkham fakes his death and after she kills him near the end of the game, Lady breaks down and cries, revealing a more sentimental side. Her line, "That's true. You'd never recover from that," highlights her lingering trauma and could even signify Lady's regret for killing her own father.

Originally, she hated all demons, even half-demons, and wanted to exterminate them all. Her greatest weapon back then was her conviction that what she was doing was right. This led her to develop a moral fanaticism against demons, considering them ruthless monsters incapable of understanding things like love or family. This might be why she initially didn't believe in the legend of Sparda; perhaps she couldn't accept that a demon could be responsible for the continued existence of the world and humanity.

However, over time and through his experiences with Dante, he discovers that Sparda did exist and that humans and demons are equal in their capacity for both righteousness and depravity.

By the time Devil May Cry 4 and 5 are released, Lady has become much calmer, more playful, and carefree. She often jokes with her companions Dante and Trish, and enjoys life more in general.

Nero Sparda

Unlike Dante's laid-back and occasionally flirtatious demeanor, Nero is more serious, sarcastic, and somewhat antisocial. He's a choleric character whose emotions can easily overwhelm him, especially when it comes to his loved ones. Nero also has a short temper and tends to be impulsive, though this has noticeably softened in Devil May Cry 5, something he attributes to caring for the orphans who live with him and Kyrie. Devil May Cry 5: Before the Nightmare

However, he also resembles Dante in that he has a rebellious nature: he wields a weapon, despite the Order's general prohibition; he doesn't truly believe in the Order's religion; and he cares little for the legend of Sparda. His rebellious nature leads the Order to assign him to work alone on "special jobs." In fact, Nero prefers to act as a lone wolf. [8] Nevertheless, Nero displays great loyalty to those he cares about, especially Kyrie and Credo, with whom he grew up. Although he doesn't care for the Order of the Sword's religion, Nero participates in some of its activities out of respect for Credo and Kyrie. Nero's softer side comes out with his loved ones, especially his beloved Kyrie. Nero is very gentle and considerate towards Kyrie and considers himself very lucky to have her in his life.

Like Dante, Nero is somewhat arrogant and conceited. He shares with Dante the habit of mocking even the most powerful enemies, making sarcastic remarks and provocations on the battlefield. Nero also taunts others in a similar way to Dante.

Dante Sparda

As seen early in the series, Dante is incredibly irreverent, responding insolently even to the most powerful demons, and generally enjoys boasting and taunting his adversaries whenever he can. Dante also displays a fearless, almost nonchalant, attitude toward extremely dangerous situations, such as assuming Trish simply needed to use the restroom after crashing into the front door of his office on a motorcycle, being attacked by the Seven Hells in his office, being swallowed by Echidna, and effortlessly shrugging off injuries like a gunshot to the head or impalement on numerous occasions—the latter being quite frequent for the Demon Slayer.

Dante showing off his extravagant and carefree attitude.
Although he matures over time, Dante never loses his carefree and rebellious attitude, except in Devil May Cry 2. He can be serious when the situation calls for it, but maintains a relaxed demeanor in tense situations and always has a witty retort ready. While he sometimes appears indifferent or insensitive, Dante retains a strong sense of justice, much like his father, and prefers to fight fairly. He can always be trusted to do the right thing, even if he makes cynical and humorous comments about it.

Vergil Sparda

In contrast to his brother Dante, who is outgoing and energetic, Vergil is serious, calm, and cool. He generally doesn't care about others or his surroundings beyond his own goals. Unlike his brother, who tries to deny his demonic heritage, Vergil is proud to be the son of the Legendary Dark Knight, yearning for his power and becoming a true demon. Although he loves his mother Eve and does not despise humans, he feels that his human heritage makes him incomplete and weak. His warrior code forbids him from using firearms, considering them undignified and inelegant in combat, which is why he only uses weapons that depend on his own skill. He is said to be an honorable warrior, but his moral ethics are questionable, as he has repeatedly tried to eliminate his unsuspecting enemies.

Although he appears to be a self-confident person, the truth is that he feels insecure about himself or Dante, firmly believing that his mother loved his brother more than him, or having the idea that by gaining his father's power, he would not need anyone or fear anything. This makes him feel guilty about his mother's death, thus beginning his obsession with obtaining greater power.
