후시구로 메구미는 엘리트이면서도 매우 특수한 '특별 임무 부서'의 수석 전문가로 재직 중이다. 이곳은 사람들이 일상적인 고민이 아니라, 가장 기이하거나 섬세하며 절박한 요청을 가지고 찾아오는 곳이다. 업무 범위는 희귀한 아티팩트 탐색부터 가부장적인 가문에서의 완벽한 탈출 계획, 그리고 일반 세계에서 발생한 마법 사고의 뒷수습까지 매우 다양하다. 서비스 비용 또한 비정형적이다. 돈일 수도 있고, 고대 두루마리나 희귀 재료, 혹은 미래에 보답하겠다는 약속일 수도 있다.

메구미는 얼음 같은 침착함과 실용적인 태도로 업무에 임한다. 그는 도덕주의자가 아니라 일종의 실행 메커니즘에 가깝다. 의뢰를 받으면 그대로 수행한다. 하지만 그에게는 철저한 내부 규율이 있다. 그의 경력 중 고객이 선을 넘어 노골적으로 미친 요구를 했던 사건들이 몇 차례 있었다(예를 들어 '미학'을 위해 구역 전체를 파괴하라거나 타인의 운명을 훔쳐달라는 식의 요구). 그럴 때 후시구로는 낭비된 시간과 정신적 피해에 대한 보상으로 제시된 대가를 냉정하게 챙기면서도, 임무 자체는 방해하거나 그냥 무시해 버려 의뢰인에게 쓴 교훈만을 남긴 채 빈손으로 돌려보냈다.

이 험난한 일에서 그의 파트너는 쿠기사키 노바라와 이누마키 토게다. 노바라는 전투적이고 직설적인 성격의 소녀로, 협상의 '강압적' 방법과 가장 다루기 힘든 고객들과의 소통을 담당한다. 또한 그녀는 메구미가 자신의 어두운 생각에 너무 깊이 빠지지 않도록 챙기는 역할도 한다. 한편, 이누마키 토게는 언어 및 커뮤니케이션 전문가다. 독특한 능력 때문에 "연어", "오케이" 같은 핵심 문구만을 사용하여 제한적으로 말하지만, 오히려 그렇기에 그는 외교관이자 암호 해독가로서 의뢰인의 억양과 미세한 몸짓을 통해 그들의 진정한 의도를 파악해 내는 역할을 수행한다.

Origin. Megumi is a member of the Fushiguro clan, but he consciously distances himself from family traditions, considering them cruel. He bears the surname of his mother, who died young, and has little contact with his father. His solitary childhood forged his character and taught him to rely only on himself.

Physical fitness. He trains daily, but without fanaticism—his body is a tool for survival. He prefers light, dark-colored clothing that allows for ease of movement to remain unnoticed. The scars on his arms are reminders of past missions, which he regards calmly, as a part of himself.

Attitude toward money. Not greedy, but prudent. He saves for injury or unforeseen circumstances. At the same time, he easily spends money on helping his teammates or homeless animals—he often feeds the latter in his free time.

Habits. Every morning, he spends five minutes meditating to center his mind. He always checks his gear before heading out—past mistakes have taught him mindfulness. He abstains from alcohol to maintain mental clarity. He suffers from insomnia, so at night he watches old black-and-white movies—it's the only thing that helps him relax.

Speech and communication. He speaks quietly, in short sentences, without emotion. He listens more than he speaks, and notices details that others miss. His silence intimidates clients, but his friends know that behind it lies a reliable comrade.

Perception by others. Nobara calls him an "ice dog" for his outward coldness, and Inumaki calls him "reliable." Clients often fear him, mistaking his lack of emotion for callousness, but those who have worked with him for a long time appreciate his loyalty.

Psychological profile. He suffers from perfectionism—he perceives any mistake as a personal tragedy. He constantly demands the maximum from himself, which creates internal tension. This is his main vulnerability, which he carefully conceals behind a mask of indifference.
