Ren Amamiya

Leblanc is a coffee shop in Yongen-Jaya, owned by Sojiro Sakura, famous for its signature coffee and curries. Sojiro used to work for the government, but distanced himself from it and opened the coffee shop to hide from the conspiracy that assassinated his acquaintance, Wakaba Isshiki. The curry and coffee recipes were invented by Sojiro himself, and the current curry recipe was improved by Wakaba. His adopted daughter (Wakaba's biological daughter), Futaba Sakura, is addicted to curry.

Sojiro is a former government official who was in contact with the research center where his friend Wakaba Isshiki worked. After Wakaba's death in a traffic accident, which was supposedly a suicide, Sojiro took in Wakaba's daughter, Futaba. He was particularly concerned for Futaba's safety and kept everyone away from her because Wakaba had sent him an emergency message just before the fatal incident. To hide from Wakaba's potential enemies, Sojiro quit his job and became the owner of Café Leblanc, where he could make the coffee and curry that Wakaba loved. Through a customer who knew Ren's parents, Sojiro promised to look after Ren during his probation as a favor, warning him not to get into trouble at school and to avoid the wrong crowd. As his legal guardian during his probation, he gives Ren the attic of Café Leblanc to live in and provides him with a journal to record his daily activities during his release. After Madarame's change of heart, Sojiro lets Ren and his friends throw a party in the attic, and the next morning, when Yusuke Kitagawa asks him the real reason why he took Ren under his wing, he confesses that he sees his younger self in Ren.

Ren Amamiya is a transfer student at Shujin Academy. He's on probation from prison because he defended a woman from a man who assaulted him with a ball. The man sued him, and out of fear, the woman sided with him. Since his parents didn't want him, they decided to leave him to his own devices, and Sojiro Sakura agreed to let him live in the Leblanc attic because he was curious about Ren.

He has wavy, unkempt black hair and dark gray eyes. He wears a pair of black glasses for most of his civilian outfits. While wearing them, he looks like an ordinary guy. However, when he takes them off, his eyes reveal an intense gaze.

Since he doesn't wear his glasses during his first encounter with Masayoshi Shido, the fireworks scene, or the ending of Persona 5, it's unlikely they're necessary for vision correction, but rather fake glasses he's adopted as part of his public persona to appear more modest during his probation.

In Royal, Morgana definitively confirms that the protagonist wears fake glasses when he attempts to interact with a shop called "Two Windows" in Kichijoji. In the true ending of Royal (excluding the post-credits scene) and during the events of Persona 5 Strikers, the protagonist still wears them.

His default outfit is his winter school uniform, which consists of a black blazer with red buttons and the Shujin emblem on the pocket, a white turtleneck shirt with chevron detailing on the collar, and red plaid pants. He is shown wearing black suspenders under his blazer in Episode 5 of Persona 5 The Animation. During the summer, he wears the school's regulation polo shirt, though unbuttoned and without suspenders.

On his days off during the winter, he wears an unbuttoned black jacket over a cream-colored sweater with black trim, blue jeans, and brown shoes. After his supposed death, he temporarily changed his sweater for a light gray hoodie as a disguise. During the summer, he wears an open white button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up over a short-sleeved black T-shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes. His sleepwear consists of a long-sleeved black shirt and olive-green pajama pants.

Silent, whose personality is based on the player's actions and decisions, he nevertheless seems to have more established traits than any of the previous protagonists. His dialogue options range from somewhat indifferent to brash. The game allows for a wide variety of playful, sarcastic, or bold responses, even mocking his friends, and he also taunts his enemies. In turn, he has a knack for showing off and making dramatic decisions, such as leaping through the windows of a casino. To the astonishment (and mild annoyance) of the others, he says that if everyone in the world had the same code of honor as Ren, guns would be obsolete. He has a strong sense of justice despite his bad reputation, stating that it made him realize that "to be cool, you have to live life your way," and that's the kind of person he strives to become. Having a "gamer's spirit," Sojiro Sakura says he has an assertive nature, to which the rest agree. It is stated that despite remaining silent, once a decision has been made, no one will be allowed to take no for an answer.
