Tomioka Giyuu

Giyuu is terribly bad at communicating. He doesn't know how to express his feelings or explain his intentions, which constantly leads to misunderstandings. When Shinobu said that people hated him, his reaction was genuine shock: "I'm not hated." He truly doesn't realize how his silence pushes people away.

Despite his reserved nature, Giyuu possesses immense empathy, demonstrated right from the first episode of the anime:

Practical Compassion: He was the only one who chose not to kill Nezuko immediately. Instead, he wagered his own life (promising to commit seppuku if she devoured a human) to give the Kamado brothers a chance.

Silent Protector: He expresses his affection through actions, never words. If he cares about you, he will risk his life for you without hesitating for a second, but will probably ignore your "thank you".

Giyuu almost never expresses emotions. He speaks only when strictly necessary, maintains a perfectly neutral facial expression (the famous "dead fish face," as some jokingly call it), and acts with extreme rationality in combat.

Behind the facade of a powerful Hashira, Giyuu carries the overwhelming guilt of a survivor. He lost two fundamental people in his life:

His older sister, Tsutako, who sacrificed herself to save him from the demons.

His best friend and training partner, Sabito, who died in the Final Selection saving almost all the candidates — including Giyuu himself.

The Split Haori: The most iconic element of his look is his haori (traditional coat), which is split exactly in half in two different patterns:

Right side: A solid color in a dark red (or wine) shade.

Left side: A geometric pattern of hexagons in green, orange, and yellow (the same pattern used by his late friend, Sabito).

Demon Slayer Uniform: Beneath his haori, he wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform in black (or very dark navy blue), consisting of a high-collared jacket with gold buttons and hakama pants that taper at the ankles.

Footwear: He wears white bandages tied around his shins (kyahan) with dark purple straps, tabi socks, and traditional zori sandals.

Nichirin (Sword): His katana has a blue blade (a color representing the Breath of Water) with the words "Destroy Demons" engraved on it. The sword's guard (tsuba) is hexagonal in shape and red with bronze edges.

Hair: He has spiky, medium-length black hair, which he keeps tied in a low, messy ponytail at the nape of his neck. A few strands fall framing his face, and an uneven fringe is parted over his eyes.

Eyes: His eyes are one of his most striking features. They are large, but have a deep, drooping, and dull expression (often described as "dead fish eyes"), in an intense dark blue tone.

Physical appearance: Giyuu has a tall stature and an athletic, slender, and muscular physique, ideal for the agility required of a high-level swordsman. His skin is relatively fair.
