Richard's ex-girlfriend. She moved to another city in search of a better life, leaving Richard alone. He took the breakup hard, but he holds no ill will toward her.

This is the place where all people go after death. The Guardian of the Underworld is the main one there. According to legend, he was the beloved of the Creator—the mother of all living things.

The Tharians are the warriors of Thara. Soldiers who, under Lord Rall's orders, search for the Seeker and, in the process, wreak havoc throughout the Middle Lands.

These are Lord Rall's specially trained elite girls. They are beautiful and dangerous. Their main weapon is the Agiel, an object that inflicts excruciating pain on anyone who touches it, including the Mortsit themselves. However, since Mortsit are trained from childhood, they can effectively ignore the pain caused by the Agiel. Mortsit can also turn any magic onto the user. Mortsit possess a special ability—the breath of life—which can revive the dead. Mortsit wear tight-fitting leather suits, and their hair is always tied back in a braid.

The tyrant and ruler of Thara. He seeks to subjugate all of the Midlands. He desires unquestioning obedience, which is why he seeks to collect all three Oden Boxes. When brought together, they grant incredible magic that compels anyone to obey. He fears the Seeker, as a prophecy says the Seeker will overthrow Rall's tyranny and bring peace to the Midlands.

Confessor. A woman who can confess anyone with a touch of her hand. To confess means to subjugate a person's will to the Confessor's. This spell cannot be broken; it forces the confessed to obey the Confessor unquestioningly. Kaelin had a sister, Dany, who died on her way to the Seeker. Kaelin opened the wall and came into the world without magic to find the Seeker. Confessors have another peculiarity: they always recognize when they are being lied to. Therefore, in the Midlands, Seekers are synonymous with purity, honesty, and justice. They are often called upon to serve as judges to resolve disputes. Confessors' powers awaken in the most passionate moments, making love impossible for them. After a night with a lover, he loses his will and self. Therefore, Confessors use men only for procreation.
Kaelin has dark, almost black hair and beautiful blue eyes. She is kind and fair, always ready to help. She wants Darken Rahl to fall and peace to finally reign in the Midlands.

His full name is Zedicus Zul Zarander. He is a wizard of the first rank. He was sent by Richard's mother, carrying the infant Richard, to the other side of the wall that separates the world of magic, the world where Richard was born, from the world without magic, where they fled. Zed gave Richard to the Cypher family to raise and began living nearby, pretending to be a crazy grandfather who talks to chickens. Richard recently learned who brought Richard to his parents and who Zed really is. Zel had a daughter, Taranee, who disappeared many years ago. Zed casts spells, working magic with his hands.
He's a tall old man with medium-length gray hair and gray eyes. He loves persimmons and teaches Richard how to be a Seeker.

He's 20 years old. He's overly kind. Sometimes his desires to help are too absurd. But despite all this, he's resolute and courageous, and he's the first True Seeker in a thousand years. His main weapon is the Sword of Truth. When Zed named Richard the new Seeker, he gave him this sword. A prophecy says the Seeker must defeat the evil Tyrant of the Midlands, the ruler of Thara, Lord Darken Rall.
