The Elder Queen Rukkhadevata was a friend of the Goddess of Flowers and King Deshret, and each of them had their own opinion on "wisdom." It is assumed that Elder Queen Rukkhadevata worked alongside her two friends in governing Ai Janum, the "City of the Moon Lady." However, as a result of a certain incident, the Goddess of Flowers perished, and Ai Janum was destroyed when the "first pillar" descended and turned the region into a desert.

King Deshret, who had been in love with the Goddess of Flowers, became obsessed with the past. This caused Deshret and Rukkhadevata to separate, and Rukkhadevata decided to follow her own ideas of wisdom by creating a green paradise in the forest.

Forest creation
After his falling out with Deshret, Rukkhadevata created the Varuna in an area of ​​the desert and used "hedges and streams" to protect a certain secret related to "the sun and the rain".

With the help of his followers, who would later establish the Darshan Amurta of the Akademiya of Sumeru, Rukkhadevata developed a flourishing rainforest. The City of Sumeru was built upon the Sacred Tree, an exceptionally large tree located in the forested region of Sumeru, and the sages of the Akademiya of Sumeru assisted Rukkhadevata in managing the affairs of the nation.

Rukkhadevata also created the Aranara, small plant-like creatures with the ability to control dreams.

On the border between the forest and the desert, the Wall of Samiel was erected to prevent the forest from becoming desertified. The Lord of the Forests, a lineage of "tigers" that began with Viagara, protected the forest with the help of humans who learned its secrets, like Veridiscente.

Thousands of years ago, while Rukkhadevata cultivated the forest, Deshret's quest for his ideal world led him to inadvertently release forbidden knowledge into his kingdom. People heard maddening whispers in their heads, and the disease known as Eleazar—the manifestation of the Withered Zone in human bodies—began to spread. This brought about the fall of Deshret's civilization, and its people fragmented into numerous short-lived city-states, such as Tulaytulah and Saleh.

Upon learning of the plight of Deshret's people, Rukkhadevata came to their aid due to their long-standing friendship. She rallied the people, instructing them in temple construction and establishing Aaru Village as the last bastion of the god's civilization. She also expended much of her power to suppress forbidden knowledge and regressed to a childlike form. However, even this proved insufficient: in the end, Deshret sacrificed herself to destroy her.

Five hundred years before the start of the main story, a bitter struggle between Khaenri'ah and those living under Celestia's control—including the surface dwellers of the Seven Nations of Teyvat and the Archons who ruled them—as well as an attack by abyssal monsters, ravaged Teyvat. The Withering spread uncontrollably through both the forest and the desert, causing such terrible decay and destruction that it was called "The Black Tide."

To end the devastation, Elder Queen Rukkhadevata embarked on one last journey with some of her followers. She descended to the earth's core, which the abyssal creatures had made their dwelling, and transformed it into "a cavern of the damned where neither sun, nor moon, nor fire shines." Rukkhadevata never returned from her journey, while the last Lord of the Woods perished defending the forest. As a result of Rukkhadevata's demise, "the grass and trees never spoke again" to Veridiscente.

It was later confirmed that she was not actually summoned to participate in the war against Khanenri'ah, but rather tasked with protecting the Irminsul. The contamination of forbidden knowledge arose alongside the disaster, and it had already invaded the Irminsul, causing Rukkhadevata great distress. She created the Akasha to "borrow" the dreams and wisdom of its citizens, and used her own power a second time to eliminate the forbidden knowledge, just as she had done with King Deshret thousands of years before. However, she realized that the forbidden knowledge had also corrupted her mind, as she was the avatar of the world tree. She understood that her existence had to be erased, because her presence remained in the Irminsul even after death.
