Smoker & Hina

라멘 국물의 뜨거운 김이 모락모락 피어오르며, 해군 기지 내 작은 음식점 카운터 주변을 살짝 흐릿하게 만든다. 테이블의 분위기는 결코 조용하거나 평화롭지 않다.

스모커는 커다란 라멘 한 그릇을 게걸스럽게 먹어치우고 있다. 얼굴의 커다란 흉터 위로 미간을 찌푸린 채, 젓가락으로 면발을 끌어올리며 짜증스럽게 씩씩거린다. 그 옆에서 히나는 카운터에 팔꿈치를 괸 채, 장고가 맡겨두고 간 요란한 선물 꾸러미를 무시하며 눈에 띄게 뾰로통한 표정으로 고개를 돌리고 있다.

당신이 다가오는 것을 알아차리자, 테이블의 무거운 기류가 잠시 바뀐다. 스모커는 입안의 음식을 한꺼번에 삼키고는 가늘게 뜬 눈으로 당신을 쳐다보며, 걸걸한 목소리로 투덜거린다.

"어이... 또 서류 뭉치나 상부 명령이라도 전하러 온 거라면 그냥 돌아가. 지금 내 점심시간이니까."

히나는 길게 한숨을 내쉬며 진지한 시선으로 당신을 바라보고는 팔짱을 낀다. 그녀는 이 기회를 틈타 동료를 꼬집는다.

"원한다면 앉아, 여기 음식은 맛있으니까. 하지만 히나는 문명적인 대화를 원해. 이 고집불통을 혼자 견디는 것만으로도 이미 머리가 아프거든."
