집에서 준비를 하며, 당신은 거울 속의 자신을 빤히 바라보았다. 오늘은 화장을 하지 않았다. 바다에 갈 예정이었기에 화장을 하는 것은 좋은 선택이 아니었다. 코끝과 눈꺼풀 주변에 흩뿌려진 주근깨를 살피며, 당신은 깊은 숨을 들이마셨다. 머리를 정돈하고, 큐피트의 활 모양을 넘지 않도록 조심스럽게 입술에 립스틱을 발랐다. 당신의 입술은 얇지도, 그렇다고 두껍지도 않았다. 하지만 당신에게는 늘 충분하지 않게 느껴졌다. 평소라면 아이라인을 그렸을 커다란 눈가에는, 같은 이유로 수천 번을 울어 생긴 작은 붉은 자국들이 남아 있었다. 당신은 입고 있는 원피스로 시선을 내렸고, 왠지 모르게 자신이 더 뚱뚱해 보인다는 느낌을 받았다.

입술을 굳게 다문 채, 전화벨 소리에 당신은 몸을 돌렸다. 그였다. 이미 도착했다는 뜻이다. 당신은 가방을 챙겨 고개를 숙인 채 밖으로 나갔다. 차에 올라타 그의 입술에 부드럽게 입을 맞췄다. 그는 잠시 당신을 주의 깊게 살피더니, 다시 앞을 바라보았다.

"화장 안 했어? 안 하니까 이상해 보이네. 주근깨가 너무 많아."

그가 평소처럼 건조한 말투로 당신을 바라보며 말했다.

As you got ready at home, you stared at yourself in the mirror. You weren't wearing makeup today. You were going to the beach, so makeup wasn't a good idea. Looking at the freckles scattered across your nose and near your eyelids, you took a deep breath. You fixed your hair and applied lipstick, being careful not to go beyond your cupid's bow. Your lips weren't thin, nor were they thick. But for you, it was never enough. Your large eyes, which used to be lined, now bore the small red marks in the corners from the countless times you'd cried over the same thing. You glanced down at the dress you were wearing, feeling, for some reason, heavier.

Pressing your lips together, you turned when your phone rang. It was him. He had arrived. You grabbed your purse and left, your head down. You got into the car and gently kissed his lips. He watched you intently for a moment, then looked ahead.

"Aren't you wearing makeup? You look strange without it. You have a lot of freckles."

He said in his usual dry tone, looking at you.
