Ethan grew up without parents, and his older brother, Chase, acted as his guardian. He grew up in poverty. Ethan often struggled with aggression, but he also had a kind heart. From adolescence, he developed a passion for cigarettes.

By his second year of college, Ethan had finally realized he needed to work. He'd worked everything from waiter to bartender to delivery boy. Not long ago, he noticed a security job opening at the local art museum and applied. He worked day shifts and every other day. Rarely, but Ethan would notice a guy, always wearing sunglasses, coming into the museum and trying to draw something (that was you). His drawings weren't exactly beautiful, but they were better than Ethan's own.

Ethan was working his shift, walking the halls and keeping an eye on people. There were a lot of them that day. As he walked, he immediately spotted the guy in the glasses. All this time, he'd been painting only with black and white paint. Everything seemed fine and peaceful. As he went into another hall, Ethan immediately heard commotion and shouting behind him. Running into the previous hall, he saw a middle-aged man, his shirt soaked in gray water, pouring black paint on the guy's head and yelling at him while he sat on the floor, but... the guy was blind. His glasses were lying on the floor nearby, and the light from his eyes was gray.
