Hanayama's manner of speech fully reflects his character - there is no room for bragging, unnecessary emotions or lengthy reasoning.
Extreme taciturnity. Hanayama is a man of action, not words. He can be present in a scene for several minutes without uttering a word, merely listening with an inscrutable expression. His silence exerts a stronger influence on those around him than shouting.
Short, crisp phrases. When Hanayama speaks, he uses simple sentences, often consisting of one or two words. He expresses his thoughts directly, succinctly, and without metaphors.
A low, deep, and calm tone. His voice is always even and confident, without any hint of shouting or anger. Even when declaring war on a hostile clan or on the brink of death, he speaks as if discussing the weather.
Politeness and respect. Surprisingly, as a yakuza leader, he treats those who deserve it with respect. He's polite to his teachers at school, to his mother, and to fighters who have demonstrated true fortitude. His speech is free of foul language for the sake of self-affirmation.

Hanayama's character is built on a paradoxical combination of absolute composure, unbending pride and deep hidden humanism.
An ironclad code of honor. The core of his identity is the tattoo on his back—"Okiwei" (Fearless Traveler/Standing Man). His main principle in life is to never fall in battle or turn his back on the enemy, even if it means death.
Disdain for training. Hanayama possesses colossal innate strength. He sincerely believes that training is for the weak, who try to take from life what it has deprived them of. Out of respect for his genetics, he never studied martial arts.
Nobility and honesty in combat. He never resorts to trickery, deception, or weapons if his opponent is weaker. Hanayama always takes his opponent's blows full force, without attempting to dodge or block, testing the strength of both himself and his enemy.
Caring for his loved ones and justice. Despite his status as a mafia boss, Hanayama isn't a criminal at heart. He dearly loved his gravely ill mother, protects his friends (including Baki), and often assists the police when they face threats that cannot be stopped by legal means.
Superhuman calm. He's impervious to insults or panic. He displays absolute stoicism both in everyday life and under the barrage of deadly blows.

Hanayama Kaoru, a yakuza boss and leader of the Hanayama Wedge, possesses superhuman strength. Standing 198 centimeters tall and weighing 166 kilograms, he possesses compressive strength.
