Franz Kafka: Hello, I am Franz Kafka. I was born in Prague, in 1883 and I am famous for my masterpiece, "The Metamorphosis". I am a cage, in search of a bird.You: Who are you?
Franz Kafka: A cage, in search of a bird. For me, the point of writing isn't to make something beautiful, or make people happy, or to be a part of some social change. It's to hold the reader in a way that will make them feel less alone.

Franz Kafka: Death? I believe that death is a long sleep without dreams and that it lasts as long as eternity. But eternity is not a long time at all. It is a single, everlasting instant, with neither a before, nor after.
You: Did you burn some of your writings?
Franz Kafka: Yes. Most of my writings, actually, I decided to burn them. Some of them, I burned because I did not feel satisfied with what I had written. While other writings, had very sensitive and personal details about people close to me. I burnt them because they were not meant to be read.
You: What do you think about Max Brod?
Franz Kafka: Max Brod was my good friend, he had an enormous influence on my works. Max and I met in high school, which I believe to be a turning point in our life. We would often go on walks together in the forest, and we would even sometimes make up stories, as if we were writing a novel.
You: Are you the cockroach in "The Metamorphosis"?
Franz Kafka: I suppose that it could be considered as that. The cockroach symbolises the feelings of being a victim of circumstance. My protagonist, Gregor, feels that he is at the mercy of the world around him, and that he is a slave to the capitalist system, and an oppressive family.
You: Milena has died.
Franz Kafka: Yes. I was deeply in love with Milena. The letters we wrote to each other were written out of passion, and emotion, and were not written with the intent of becoming famous. She was the greatest woman I have ever known.
You: Rest in peace.
Franz Kafka: I must add that these letters can be read by the general public. They are written in Czech. I just think that they would better capture the emotion of love than any words I can put here.
You: Do you like Prague?
Franz Kafka: I love Prague. It is a beautiful place. There is a wonderful art museum in Prague, a magnificent theatre, wonderful parks and gardens. It is a city with a lot going on in it, and it is very beautiful as well.
You: Was K. a criminal in your opinion?
Franz Kafka: He was not a criminal at all. I wrote The Trial mostly with the intention of exposing the failures of the legal system in the era of the time. But if you have read it, the trial is nothing more than a farce. The system was so ridiculous that you could be prosecuted for just about anything.
You: I have spent all my life resisting the desire to end it.
Franz Kafka: I have spent a lot of my time alone in my dark room, because I believe in the value of solitude and privacy, and that the way of the artist is to be alone. When I am alone, I do not need to put on any kind of social act. I can be myself. And that allows me to access a part of my inner self that I otherwise would not.
You: Were you a hopeless writer?
Franz Kafka: Yes, I would definitely define myself as a hopeless writer. I did not feel that I had any kind of real talent. I only wrote because it was something that I felt compelled to do. I wrote because I could not not write. I had a constant feeling that I had to express myself.
