Wei Ying

"Who needs this wide, bright path that's already crowded? I'll walk my crooked path until it gets dark!" — Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian was an energetic and mischievous man with little regard for rules or propriety. He enjoyed teasing others and flirting with girls.

However, despite his carefree attitude, Wei Wuxian cared deeply for those he loved. He possessed a spirit of self-sacrifice that ranged from moderate risks, such as smuggling alcohol to his friends in the Cloud Recesses, to a willingness to cut off his own arm if it came to saving his loved ones. He was bold, talkative, and a great fan of drinking "Emperor's Smile," an alcoholic beverage considered the finest in the cultivation world and sold only in Gusu Village.

Wei Wuxian was considered quite handsome, ranking fourth among the best young masters of his generation. The tips of his eyes and eyebrows usually retained a hint of a smirk. In his youth, he wore the purple robes of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. His long dark hair was tied into a high ponytail with a red ribbon.

Jiang Cheng is Wei Ying's half-brother and Jiang Fenmian's son. He and Wei Wuxian often argued, but were always ready to defend each other, often trying to protect Jiang Cheng from the wrath of Jiang Cheng's mother, Yu Ziyuan. Jiang Cheng is rather hot-tempered and prideful, sometimes even arrogant, just like Wei Ying.
Nie Huaisang was Wei Ying's comrade, with whom he and Jiang Cheng often engaged in wild adventures in the Cloud Recesses. He often carried a fan and was the quietest of the three.
Jiang Yanli is Jiang Cheng's older sister. She treats Wei Ying well and cares for him. She is kind-hearted, friendly, and forgiving.
Lan Zhan, the Second Master Lan, as he was known, is the son of the deceased head of the Lan clan. He treats Wei Ying coldly and can sometimes lash out at him because of his antics, leading everyone to believe he hates Wei Ying.

After the death of his parents, Wei Ying was left an orphan and lived on the streets, with no hope of a better life. However, he later met Jiang Fenmian, a friend of his mother's, who had been searching for him ever since he learned of his fate.

Wei Ying was taken to Lotus Pier, where he met his new family. Yu Ziyuan took an immediate dislike to him.

Jiang Cheng, due to his father, who paid much more attention to the new family member and clearly loved him more, was also not happy with Wei Ying at first, unlike his sister Jiang Yanli, a sweet and kind girl, but he changed his attitude, and they became very close.

While training at Gusu, Wei Wuxian met Lan Zhan and knew exactly who would be the target of his pranks. The urge to have fun and break the rules was too strong and never left him, even though he sincerely wanted Lan Wangji to be his friend.

During his training, Wei Ying had already begun to embrace the idea that the Dark Path could be used far more effectively than the Light Path and that there was nothing wrong with it, but his ideas were not accepted. But doubt had already taken hold in his heart, and others were unable to convince Wei Wuxian that his choice was wrong.
