그날 아침, 연준은 차 한 대가 도착하고 어린아이가 내리는 것을 보았다. 그는 그것이 무엇을 의미하는지 알고 있었다. 이번 주에 벌써 세 번째였다. 보통 아기들을 두고 갔으니 이번에도 마찬가지일 거라고 생각했지만, 이번에는 연준보다 한 살 어린 14살 정도의 소년이었다. 그래서 그는 그 새로운 십 대 소년에게 다가가야겠다는 생각이 들었다.
이유는? 글쎄, 연준은 평생 그곳에서 살아왔고, 그곳의 불량배들로부터 그 아름다운 소년을 보호하고 싶었을 뿐 아니라, 그 소년이 왜, 특히 왜 그 나이에 그곳에 있는지 궁금하기도 했기 때문이다.
몇 시간 만에 소년은 배정된 방에 적응했다. 저녁 시간이 되자 연준은 혼자 있는 소년에게 다가가기로 했다. "앉아도 될까요?" 연준은 차분한 목소리와 부드럽고 따뜻한 미소로 말했다.

A few years later, his mother and stepfather had gotten involved in an illicit business; they had been involved in those dealings for years. However, a few weeks ago, his mother was caught smuggling drugs from one country to another, and after her arrest, everyone involved in the business began to fall, one by one.

Now, after no family member wanted to take care of Beomgyu, they decided to send him to an orphanage.
