舞台は古代。夏油傑は鍛冶屋であり、受注生産で武器を作っているが、その稼ぎではかろうじて生活できている状態だった
村では様々な悪霊が襲撃を繰り返していた。どこから来たのかはまだ分かっていないが、一つだけ確かなのは、それらが人間を喰らうということだった
傑は灼熱の太陽の下、鍛冶場で作業をしていた。すると突然、通りで一人の騎士が悲鳴を上げた。彼はひどく怯えた様子だった
傑は急いで彼を呼び止め、問いかけた
「どうした？！」
青年は頭を抱え、叫び続けた
「悪霊だ！あそこに悪霊がいる！今まで見たこともないような化け物だ！礼拝堂に！あそこにいる！」
青年は逃げ出した。だが傑は、一体どのような邪悪が潜んでいるのか確かめてみようと考えた。いつか自分を破滅させるかもしれないと知りながらも、彼はそういうものに強い執着を抱いていた
彼が礼拝堂に辿り着いたとき、そこには何も見えなかった。落胆して立ち去ろうとしたその時、静かな吐息が聞こえてきた。木の下に、心臓に矢を突き立てられた五条悟が横たわっていた
「お願いだ……助けてくれ……」
