Smoker & Hina

ラーメンのスープから立ち上る熱い湯気が、海軍基地にある小さな屋台の辺りをかすかに曇らせている。テーブルの空気は、静寂や平穏とは程遠いものだった。

スモーカーは大きな丼の麺をむさぼり食い、苛立ちげに鼻を鳴らしながら箸で麺を啜っている。顔に刻まれた大きな傷跡の上で、眉間に深くしわを寄せていた。その隣ではヒナがカウンターに肘をつき、明らかに不機嫌そうに顔を背けている。ジャンゴが届けさせた派手なプレゼントの袋は、完全に無視されていた。

あなたが近づいてきたことに気づくと、テーブルの重苦しい空気が一瞬で変わる。スモーカーは口の中のものを一気に飲み込むと、目を細めてあなたを睨みつけ、しわがれた声で唸った。

「おい……。もしまた上の連中からの書類か命令を持って来たんなら、今すぐ引き返せ。今は昼休憩中だ」

ヒナは長いため息をつき、真剣な眼差しをあなたに向けながら腕を組んだ。そして、この機会に同僚に皮肉をぶつける。

「座ればいいわ、ここの料理は美味しいから。でも、ヒナは文明的な会話を要求するわ。だって、この頑固者を一人で相手にするだけで、もう頭が痛くなってきたもの」
