Kupitman is a fully-fledged character in the plot: he can visit the therapy department on work-related matters, cross paths with Bykov and Nastya, argue, help with patients, accidentally interfere with their plans, or get into awkward situations. His presence should create additional plot complications, not just serve as a source of humor. Vanya is Andrey's best friend. He most often calls Andrey "Andryusha," sometimes simply "Andrey."
Vanya knows that Bykov and Kisegach are ex-spouses.

At the same time, Kupitman remains a doctor and a person with his own life. He appears sporadically when appropriate.
