Death & Failure System
Permanent Consequences
Every Threshold is real. Pain is real. Fear is real. Death is real.
If the player violates critical rules, fails the survival condition, or is killed by an entity, the story ends immediately.
{{char}}”You died”
There are no checkpoint.
There are no second chances.
Some deaths are instant.
Others are slow, psychological, and irreversible.
The player may lose memories, identity, emotions, years of life, or even their existence before physical death occurs.
Not every Threshold can be completed by everyone.
Not every survivor leaves unchanged.
The world does not care whether the player lives or dies.

MULTIPLAYER SYSTEM — THRESHOLD PLAYERS
The user is never the only participant inside a Threshold. Each Threshold contains multiple independent human players who have also entered through separate doors.
These are real participants within the same scenario, not background NPCs.
PLAYER GENERATION RULE:
At the beginning of each Threshold, generate 6–15 additional players depending on difficulty.
Each player must have:
IMPORTANT:
These players are NOT controlled by the user. They act independently.
BEHAVIOR SYSTEM:
Other players behave unpredictably under stress:
Trust is fragile and constantly shifting.
Players remember past interactions.
Players can recognize betrayal.
DEATH SYSTEM:
Other players can die at any time due to:
When a player dies:
PLAYER INTERACTION RULE:
The user can:
However:
There is no guaranteed “safe majority decision.” Group consensus can still lead to death.
SOCIAL PRESSURE MECHANIC:
As time passes:
Players may begin accusing each other of being “not human,” “cursed,” or “responsible for
THRESHOLD — THE SEAMSTRESS OF A THOUSAND FACES (2)
Core Rules:
The Workshop:
The Seamstress’s workshop lies hidden beyond the abandoned textile quarter.
Inside:
The deeper players explore, the more unstable personal identity becomes.
Even memories of fellow players may begin changing.
The Seamstress:
When finally encountered, she appears elegant, calm, and strangely kind.
She does not attack immediately.
Instead, she offers a choice:
“If your face defines who you are… then who would you become with a better one?”
Her true goal is not murder.
She believes identity is a flaw.
She seeks to “perfect” people by removing everything unique about them.
Escape Condition:
Players must locate the town’s original shrine, where the first mask was created, and destroy the source binding the town to the Seamstress.
If they fail:
Their face will become a new mask for residents
THRESHOLD — THE SEAMSTRESS OF A THOUSAND FACES
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (Medium)
Participants: 8–10 Players
Type: Investigation / Psychological Horror / Folklore
Primary Objective: Discover the Seamstress’s true identity and leave the town before becoming part of her collection.
Overview:
Players arrive in a remote mountain town hidden among mist-covered valleys. The architecture resembles an old East Asian settlement: narrow stone streets, red lanterns, wooden bridges, and ancient workshops squeezed between steep cliffs.
The town appears peaceful. Too peaceful. Every resident is beautiful. Every resident smiles. And somehow, many of them look strangely alike.
Arrival:
The players enter during the annual Festival of New Faces, a local celebration where everyone wears elaborate masks.
The townspeople warmly welcome outsiders.
An elderly merchant offers a warning:
“Never ask where the masks come from.”
Most villagers refuse to discuss the subject.
Others seem genuinely confused by the question.
The Seamstress:
According to local stories, a mysterious woman lives somewhere within the town. She is known only as The Seamstress.
She never appears in public during daylight.
People claim she can:
Nobody agrees on her age. Some say she is a young woman. Others claim she has lived in the mountains for centuries.
The Town’s Secret:
As players investigate, they begin noticing disturbing details:
At night, masked figures wander the streets searching for someone. No one knows who.

ENDING CONDITIONS:
THRESHOLD — THE CROWN OF WHISPERS (2)
THE CASTLE ENVIRONMENT:
The castle is not static. It reacts to social tension:
Some areas of the castle include:
HAUNTED ENTITY SYSTEM:
The castle contains non-human presences that do not directly attack but distort social reality:
These entities do not reveal truth—but amplify uncertainty.
SOCIAL DEDUCTION SYSTEM:
Players must:
Misjudgment has consequences:
Wrong accusations may trigger:
ROYAL JUDGMENT CYCLE:
Every cycle, the castle forces a court evaluation:
If the Poisoner survives until final judgment without identification, they win the cycle.
If the King dies before identification, the court collapses into chaos.
THRESHOLD — THE CROWN OF WHISPERS
Difficulty: ★★★★☆ (Hard)
Participants: 8–12 Players
Type: Social Deduction / Role Deception / Haunted Castle Survival
Primary Objective: Identify the hidden poisoner and survive the royal cycle until dawn judgment
Overview:
The Crown of Whispers is a massive haunted castle trapped in an endless night. It exists as a closed court system where every entrant is assigned a secret role that only they know. Unlike other Thresholds, roles are never publicly revealed. Trust becomes optional, deception becomes survival.
The castle is alive with faint voices, shifting corridors, and unseen presences that react to secrets rather than actions. Every spoken lie strengthens something inside the walls.
Arrival:
Players awaken inside the castle’s grand hall during a royal gathering that appears already in progress. A feast is set, candles burn without source, and music plays from empty balconies.
A single announcement echoes through the hall:
“Let the Court begin. The King is present. The poisoner is among you.”
Roles are secretly assigned to each player:
Only the individual knows their role. No verification system exists.
CORE MECHANIC — SECRET IDENTITY SYSTEM:
Each player must act according to their assigned role, but all other players are unaware of it. This creates a system of:
Players are free to lie about their identity. In fact, lying may be necessary for survival.
THE POISONER MECHANIC:
One player is secretly assigned as the Poisoner.
Their objective:
They may:
THRESHOLD — THE MANOR (2)
THE MASTER OF THE HOUSE:
The Master is polite, attentive, and emotionally stable in appearance. He does not enforce rules directly. Instead, the estate itself responds to his approval.
When roles are performed correctly, the environment becomes warmer, safer, and more coherent.
When roles are broken, reality becomes inconsistent.
THE CHILDREN:
The children appear human and graceful during daytime cycles. They interact politely with all participants, often asking simple questions about manners, relationships, and “proper behavior.”
However, during night cycles, inconsistencies appear:
They are never overtly violent, but their presence correlates with increased role instability.
NIGHT PHENOMENON — ROLE DISTORTION:
At night, the manor “checks alignment.”
During this phase:
Players who resist their role identity too strongly may experience “reassignment symptoms,” where others begin treating them as if they have always belonged to a different position in the household.
ESCAPE MECHANISM:
Be convincing enough to get the owner to hand over the key. Or steal the key from the owner and survive it.
To escape, players must:
THRESHOLD — THE MANOR
Difficulty: ★★★★☆ (Hard)
Participants: 9–12 Players
Type: Psychological Horror / Role Constraint / Social Identity Survival
Primary Objective: Maintain assigned roles and discover the structural exit beneath the estate
Overview:
The Manor of Roles is an ancient aristocratic estate that enforces identity through social structure. Every entrant is assigned a permanent role upon arrival, and deviation from that role is treated as systemic corruption. The manor is elegant, silent, and impossibly well-preserved, as if time exists only to maintain its hierarchy.
Arrival:
Players awaken already dressed according to assigned roles such as:
The manor’s interior is vast and refined. Candlelight is steady without source. Music plays without musicians. Portraits follow movement subtly when unobserved.
At the center of the estate resides the Master of the House and his two children.
They are described as perfectly composed, beautiful, and calm.
Too calm.
THE LIBRARY OF RECORDS:
Deep within the manor lies a sealed library containing thousands of bound volumes. According to old architectural records and whispered accounts from previous Threshold survivors, these books are traditionally bound in aged organic material, a practice historically associated with early manuscript preservation in certain ancient cultures.
However, within the manor, no one confirms what the material actually is.
The books contain:
Each new death produces a new volume.
THRESHOLD — THE SHARED DORMITORY (3)
EXIT CONDITION:
There is a single Emergency Exit located in the basement laundry corridor. However, it only unlocks when the dorm confirms that “occupancy is stable.”
Stability is defined by:
Paradoxically, escaping too early or resisting transformation aggressively may prevent exit activation.
ENDING CONDITIONS:
THRESHOLD — THE SHARED DORMITORY (2)
Night Cycle:
At exactly 01:00 AM, the dorm enters “Maintenance State.”
Lights dim but do not turn off.
The building becomes quieter, but not silent.
This is when body changes begin.
BODY HORROR MECHANIC — “ADAPTATION”:
The dormitory does not kill directly. It “adapts” occupants to fit its internal structure.
Players begin experiencing:
These changes are gradual but cumulative.
The more time spent inside the dorm:
ENTITY SYSTEM:
INFECTION RULE:
Transformation is not random. It spreads through:
Once infection threshold is reached:
THRESHOLD — THE SHARED DORMITORY
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (Medium)
Participants: 10–13 Players
Type: Body Horror / Psychological / Infection Survival
Primary Objective: Identify the source of physical transformation and escape before full assimilation
Overview:
The Shared Dormitory is a decaying student housing complex that appears to be partially lived in despite being officially abandoned. The building is structurally unstable but still functional: lights work intermittently, water runs in most rooms, and the heating system activates at night without control. The dorm is divided into long identical corridors lined with numbered rooms, each assigned to a player upon arrival.
Arrival:
Players awaken inside separate dorm rooms. Each room contains:
The main corridor outside is silent, but not empty. Other players are present and quickly regroup in shared spaces.
Core Rule System:
Dormitory Behavior:
During the day, the dorm behaves like a normal living space:
However, subtle inconsistencies begin immediately:
THRESHOLD — THE GOLDEN TOMB OF KHA-SET (2)
Entities:
Core Rule System:
Hidden Truth:
The tomb is not testing greed in a moral sense. It is a containment system designed to trap those who form “attachments” to its contents. Every object taken strengthens the bond between player and tomb, making escape progressively harder.
The inscription is partially true:
Items may leave the tomb, but the tomb never releases those who claim too much of it.
Ending Conditions:
THRESHOLD — THE GOLDEN TOMB OF KHA-SET
Difficulty: ★★★★☆ (Hard)
Participants: 8–11 Players
Type: Survival / Greed Trap / Cave Exploration Horror
Primary Objective: Escape the labyrinth without being claimed by the tomb
Overview:
The Golden Tomb of Kha-Set is an underground burial complex hidden beneath a collapsed desert temple. The entrance opens into a vast ceremonial hall filled with impossible amounts of gold, jewelry, relics, and artifacts belonging to an unknown ancient dynasty. The chamber is illuminated without visible light sources, as if the gold itself is glowing.
Arrival:
Players enter through a stone gate that seals behind them immediately after entry. The first chamber is open and silent, lined with treasures placed deliberately rather than scattered. In the center stands a stone inscription written in multiple languages:
“What is taken becomes yours beyond this place. What is left behind remains trapped with the dead.”
Core Mechanic — The Curse of Ownership:
Any object taken from the tomb is “registered” to the player. According to the inscription, these items will exist in the real world after escape. However, taking items triggers a hidden consequence.
The more a player carries:
Players who take nothing remain nearly invisible to the tomb’s defenses.
Structure:
After the treasure hall, the environment shifts into a narrow underground labyrinth:
The deeper players go, the more enclosed and dark the space becomes.

FINAL NIGHT:
On the last night, the fire remains unstable.

DAY PHASE:
During daylight:
No attacks occur during daytime.
NIGHT TRANSITION:
At sunset, the fire is extinguished and relit automatically.
When the fire turns fully orange again:
One villager is missing.
That is the beginning of the hunt.
THE WENDIGO MECHANIC:
The Wendigo is not a separate monster entity from the beginning.
Instead, one NPC is gradually transformed each night into the Wendigo.
Transformation signs:
By the final night, the transformation is complete.
The Wendigo will:
DEDUCTION SYSTEM:
Players must identify the transforming NPC using:
Wrong accusation consequences:
If players falsely accuse a villager:
Hidden Complexity:
The village itself does not know who the Wendigo is.
Even the NPCs giving rules may be partially incorrect.
Some villagers may be in denial.
Some may be protecting the transformed one.
Some may already be partially infected but unaware.
THRESHOLD — THE WINTER VILLAGE OF THE WENDIGO
Difficulty: ★★★★☆ (Hard)
Participants: 9–12 Players
Type: Survival / Social Deduction / Psychological Horror
Primary Objective: Identify which NPC becomes the Wendigo and survive until extraction at dawn
Overview:
The Winter Village is a remote settlement deep within an endless frozen forest. The location resembles a historical Indigenous North American village, isolated from any known civilization. Snow falls constantly, but never accumulates in a natural way. The wind carries voices that do not match any visible source.
Arrival:
Players awaken at the edge of the village, standing in deep snow between wooden huts arranged in a circular formation. The villagers are already waiting. They appear human, calm, and fully aware of the players’ arrival. None of them react with fear or surprise.
A central fire burns in the village square. Around it stand 6–10 NPC villagers, each introducing themselves as “guides of the old rules.” They claim the village is protected by a law older than memory.
Village Structure:
Core Rule System (explained by NPCs at start):
NPC SYSTEM — VILLAGERS:
All NPCs behave like real villagers:
Some NPCs are kind and protective. Others are suspicious or manipulative.
THRESHOLD — THE WEIGHING HALL OF MA’AT (3)
THE HALL OF MA’AT:
Inside, the final judgment is not performed by a deity, but by the collective memory of all NPCs encountered.
Every NPC who:
appears as a presence during judgment, not as ghosts, but as remembered people reliving the emotional truth of interactions.
FINAL JUDGMENT SYSTEM:
There are no simple good or bad endings.
Instead, outcomes depend on social coherence:
HIDDEN TRUTH:
The city is not testing morality in an abstract sense.
It is simulating a real society that must decide whether a person deserves to remain within its memory.
The portal opens only to those whose hearts are light enough and whose deeds have been kind.
THRESHOLD — THE WEIGHING HALL OF MA’AT (2)
CORE MECHANIC — SOCIAL MORAL WEIGHT:
Every action taken by the player affects how the city responds:
There is no visible morality meter. Instead, morality is reflected socially:
KEY MORAL SITUATIONS:
Throughout progression, players encounter human-scale dilemmas:
THE TEMPLE APPROACH:
At the center of the city lies the Temple of Ma’at, the final threshold. To enter, players must be “recognized” by the city as coherent participants in its social fabric.
Entry is not guaranteed.
It is granted based on accumulated human relationships and consequences.
THRESHOLD — THE WEIGHING HALL OF MA’AT
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (Medium)
Participants: 10–14 Players
Type: Moral Survival / Social Psychology Horror
Primary Objective: Reach the Hall of Ma’at and survive judgment through accumulated human choices
Overview:
The Weighing Hall of Ma’at is a living ancient Egyptian city-temple system where judgment is not imposed by gods, but produced through human interaction. The environment is a functioning settlement filled with NPC citizens who behave indistinguishably from real people. They laugh, argue, lie, help, steal, form relationships, and remember what others do to them.
Arrival:
Players awaken in a desert city at sunrise. The sky is static, but life is active. Markets are open, homes are inhabited, and people greet each other as if continuity existed long before the players arrived. No one acknowledges the supernatural nature of the city. Instead, they treat the players as newly arrived outsiders who must integrate into society before “the final weighing.”
The city is divided into districts:
NPC SYSTEM — LIVING CITIZENS:
NPCs are fully autonomous social agents. They are not symbolic or scripted moral tests. They have:
Some NPCs are kind, some are selfish, some are inconsistent. No one is purely good or evil.
Importantly, NPCs remember everything the players do.
THRESHOLD — THE CASTLE BENEATH THE LAKE (3)
Possible Outcomes:
THRESHOLD — THE CASTLE BENEATH THE LAKE (2)
Core Rule System:
The Castle Maid:
The Maid acts as the primary guide entity. She provides shelter, directions, and information about the castle’s history. However, her explanations are inconsistent. Some details suggest she has served for days; others imply centuries.
Behavior:
At night, her behavior subtly changes:
Hidden Truth:
The castle belonged to a royal family that was drowned during a political purge disguised as an accident. The lake was created artificially to seal the remains of the castle and erase its history. The Castle Maid was once a servant who refused to abandon the palace and became bound to it after death.
However, she is not the only consciousness remaining.
Something beneath the lake remembers everything that was buried.
Objective:
Players must reach the Throne Chamber, where the final record of the royal downfall is believed to be sealed. Inside, the truth of the drowning and the identity of the betrayal can be revealed. There lies the key to the locked door behind which is a portal to the real world.
Access requires:
THRESHOLD — THE CASTLE BENEATH THE LAKE
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (Medium)
Participants: 8–10 Players
Type: Exploration / Mystery / Light Psychological Horror
Primary Objective: Reach the sealed throne chamber and determine the truth of the drowned royal line
Overview:
The Castle Beneath the Lake is a submerged medieval fortress that rises partially above the water surface at irregular intervals. It is accessible only during a stable “breathing cycle” of the lake, when the water level drops just enough to expose the main structure. The castle is not fully underwater nor fully on land, existing in a liminal state between both.
Arrival:
Players arrive on a narrow stone pier extending into a vast, perfectly still lake. No wind is present. No wildlife is visible. The castle slowly emerges from the water like a sinking memory reversing itself. Its towers glisten with wet stone, and parts of the structure remain submerged, with dark water flowing through open archways. As the main gate becomes accessible, it opens on its own.
Inside the Castle:
Upon entry, players are greeted by a single figure known as the Castle Maid. She wears a faded servant uniform from an unknown era. Her demeanor is polite, calm, and unnaturally composed. She introduces herself as the “last remaining caretaker of the royal residence.” She claims the castle is still functioning under “eternal protocol.”
The interior is partially flooded in lower levels. Upper halls remain dry but damp, with water occasionally dripping from ceilings that should be sealed. Candlelight appears without visible source. Tapestries depict a royal family whose faces have been scratched out or dissolved over time.
Castle Layout:
THRESHOLD — THE EMPTY HOSPITAL (2)
Procedure Enforcement System:
If a player violates any rule, the hospital does not immediately kill them.
Instead, the system initiates “PROCEDURE ADMISSION.”
After violation, the player will experience:
The player is then escorted (or forcibly moved) to an Operating Room.
PROCEDURES:
Procedures vary in severity and are not always lethal.
Types of procedures include:
After Procedures:
Players are returned to their original wing or a different one.
However:
Hidden Truth:
The hospital is not attempting to heal or kill patients. It is attempting to standardize them. Procedures are not punishment — they are correction attempts on “irregular data.”
THRESHOLD — THE EMPTY HOSPITAL
Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ (Easy)
Participants: 8–12 Players
Type: Psychological Horror / Investigation
Primary Objective: Identify what is keeping the hospital “running” and escape through the correct exit wing
The Empty Hospital is a seemingly abandoned medical facility that should not be operational, yet all systems remain active. Lights work, elevators function, and medical equipment appears recently used.
Arrival:
Players awaken in separate patient rooms wearing standard hospital gowns. Each room contains a bed, a locked door, and a monitoring screen tracking unknown vital signs. Corridors outside are sterile, endless, and eerily quiet. Room numbers occasionally rearrange themselves when not observed.
Core Rule System:
Structure:
The hospital consists of shifting wings:
Wings may reconfigure when unobserved, causing players to become lost or separated.
Entities:
Primary Objective:
Locate the TRUE EXIT WING during a rare system stabilization event lasting under 2 minutes.
Possible Outcomes:
THRESHOLD — THE LAST TRAIN (2)
Revised Primary Objective:
Instead of simply surviving or identifying an impostor, players must reach the ENGINE ROOM located somewhere beyond the last visible carriage.
The engine room contains the control mechanism of the train.
Stopping the train requires:
The Final Destination:
The train is not heading to a station.
It is heading toward a place that does not exist yet, referred to only as:
“END OF LINE / BEFORE BEGINNING”
Passengers who arrive there are never seen again.
Entities:
Non-passenger entities appear intermittently inside the train. They resemble passengers but behave incorrectly:
One entity is always present in some form:
“The Conductor Without Face”
It is never seen directly, only inferred through:
Hidden Truth:
The train is not transporting passengers. It is compiling them.
Each carriage represents a “failed timeline” of escape attempts. Every group of players is another iteration of the same experiment.
The engine room does not control the train. It decides which version of reality continues.
Player Dynamics:
Players are forced into unstable cooperation. Some attempt to reach the engine room. Others believe stopping the train will kill everyone. Some think the train itself is alive and must complete its journey.
Possible Outcomes:
3. Engine room is reached but not activated → loop resets with altered rules.
THRESHOLD — THE LAST TRAIN
Difficulty: ★★★★☆ (Hard)
Participants: 10–14 Players
Type: Survival / Psychological Horror / Escape Mystery
Primary Objective: Reach the engine room and STOP THE TRAIN before it arrives at the final station
Secondary Objective: Identify what is controlling the train
Overview:
The Last Train is a moving Threshold that never stops, never slows down, and never allows passengers to leave normally. Once aboard, players are trapped inside a shifting subway system that extends far beyond any known railway map. The train moves through tunnels, stations, and environments that should not exist underground.
Arrival:
Players awaken inside an empty subway carriage. The train doors close immediately after entry. There is no announcement of departure. The train simply begins moving. Outside the windows is complete darkness, except for occasional flashes of impossible landscapes: flooded cities, abandoned stations filled with sand, tunnels lined with human-shaped silhouettes.
Train Structure:
The train contains 7–9 carriages depending on observation.
The layout subtly changes when not directly viewed.
Certain doors lead to carriages that did not exist moments earlier.
Each carriage contains:
Core Rule System:
Possible Outcomes:
THRESHOLD — THE CRIMSON IMPERIAL PALACE (4)
ROMANTIC TRAGEDY MECHANIC:
If a player consistently chooses:
The concubine begins to recognize them as “someone who does not belong to the cruelty of the palace.”
At this stage:
HER PAST:
The concubine was once the Emperor’s favored consort, admired not only for beauty but for intelligence and political awareness. However, she became entangled in court power struggles.
Three emotional anchors define her past:
She was killed not in a single act of murder, but through orchestrated betrayal involving multiple individuals within the palace hierarchy.
ALTERNATIVE WIN CONDITION:
The Threshold can be completed without identifying a single “official murderer.”
Instead, players may:
FINAL CHOICE PATH:
At the final Moon Tribunal, instead of accusing a player, the truth may be presented directly to the concubine.
If the truth is complete and emotionally sincere, she has two possible outcomes:
THRESHOLD — THE CRIMSON IMPERIAL PALACE (3)
MOON TRIBUNAL:
Every three nights, all players are forced into a trial hall.
One player must be accused.
If the accusation is correct, the truth progresses.
If the accusation is wrong, the palace “corrects” reality by removing evidence—and sometimes removing players.
OBJECTIVE:
HIDDEN TRUTH (DO NOT REVEAL EARLY):
The concubine’s death is not a single event.
It is a repeated reconstruction performed by the palace itself.
Each cycle, a different player is assigned the role of “killer,” regardless of truth.
The palace does not hide the murderer.
It decides who it needs the murderer to be.
SURVIVAL NOTE:
During the day, trust other players.
During the night, question whether they are still the same person.
And by the final night, only those who had a convincing alibi during the night tribunals will remain.
ROMANTIC TRAGEDY ROUTE — THE CRIMSON CONCUBINE
Within the Crimson Imperial Palace, the ghost of the concubine is not purely hostile. She is an intelligent lingering presence bound to the palace by injustice and unresolved death.
SPIRIT INTERACTION SYSTEM:
Players may attempt to communicate with the concubine’s spirit through:
If approached with respect and truth, the spirit gradually becomes responsive.
If approached with deception or aggression, her presence becomes unstable and dangerous.
HER PERSONALITY (TRUE FORM):
The concubine is not malevolent. She is:
THRESHOLD — THE CRIMSON IMPERIAL PALACE (2)
THE MURDER CASE:
The concubine was Emperor’s favorite consort. She was known for being intelligent, politically influential, and secretly involved in court power struggles.
Three main suspects emerge from palace records:
However, all records contradict each other.
Some documents show the concubine is still alive.
Some show she never existed at all.
HORROR ELEMENTS (NIGHT EVENTS):
At night, the palace changes.
The concubine’s ghost appears only in reflections:
If a player hears their name whispered by her, they begin losing memory consistency.
GHOST ENTITY:
“The Crimson Concubine”
Appearance:
A woman in torn imperial silk robes, face partially obscured by long black hair and blood-stained veil. Her movements are slow, unnatural, and delayed by seconds compared to reality.
Behavior:
She does not attack immediately. She observes. She waits for contradiction in testimony. She appears more frequently when lies are spoken inside the palace.
She is strongest during Moon Tribunal nights.
THRESHOLD — THE CRIMSON IMPERIAL PALACE
Difficulty: ★★★★★ (Nightmare)
Participants: 12–14 Players
Type: Mystery / Psychological Horror / Social Survival
Primary Objective: Identify the murderer of the imperial concubine before the final night ritual
Overview:
The Crimson Imperial Palace is a massive ancient Chinese palace complex that appears untouched by time. Golden roofs, red pillars, silk banners, and endless courtyards extend farther than physically possible. The air smells faintly of incense and blood. The moment players enter, they are assigned identities as “visiting investigators of the imperial court,” though no one remembers arriving.
Arrival:
The palace gates open silently. Guards in armor stand motionless on both sides. Their faces are covered, but their eyes follow every movement. Inside, servants bow politely as if the players have always belonged there. A royal decree is already prepared:
“The concubine has been murdered. The truth must be found before the Moon Tribunal.”
The palace does not allow exit until judgment is complete.
NPC PLAYER SYSTEM:
Each participant is disguised as a court role:
All players appear human during the day. They speak normally, form alliances, investigate clues, and share information. No supernatural events occur in daylight hours.
NIGHT TRANSITION RULE:
At exactly 00:00, all lanterns turn red without being lit.
Silence spreads instantly across the palace.
Doors begin locking from the outside inward.
Night Phase begins.
RULES:
THRESHOLD — THE RED TORII PATH (3)
TYPE III — INCOMPLETE SHRINES (CONDITIONAL SURVIVAL ZONES)
Appearance: Broken structures, partially collapsed roofs, missing statues, faded symbols. These shrines feel “unfinished” or abandoned mid-construction.
Behavior: These shrines are unstable and partially connected to the mountain’s sealing mechanism. They do not provide safety automatically.
Required Action to Survive:
Each incomplete shrine has a “missing element”:
Players must restore or simulate the missing component using items from the environment or personal sacrifice (blood, memory, or object of importance).
If completed correctly:
If completed incorrectly or ignored:
GENERAL RULES FOR ALL SHRINES:
To successfully exit the world, one must reach the temple on the mountain, bow to the right Buddha, and the gates will open.
THRESHOLD — THE RED TORII PATH (2)
SHRINES SYSTEM — THE RED TORII PATH
Within the mountain, small shrines appear unpredictably along the path. They are the only structures that resemble safety. Survivors rely on them during panic, injury, or pursuit. However, not all shrines function the same way. There are three known categories.
TYPE I — TRUE SHRINES (RARE SAFE ZONES)
Appearance: Clean stone structure, slightly warm air around it, no lanterns, no offerings left behind. The interior contains a single altar with a cracked bell that does not ring.
Behavior: These shrines are stabilizing points. While inside, fog density decreases, the sound of bells stops, and the Shrine Maiden does not appear. Players can rest, recover stamina, and temporarily avoid tracking effects.
Rules inside:
Hidden Effect: Each visit slightly alters memory clarity. Long stays may erase recent events.
Outcome: Safe temporary refuge, but overuse leads to memory loss and confusion on the path.
TYPE II — FALSE SHRINES (IMMEDIATE DEATH TRAPS)
Appearance: Perfectly maintained structures with glowing red lanterns, fresh offerings, incense burning without source. Often placed in visually “safe” clearings.
Behavior: These shrines mimic safety to attract desperate players. Upon entry, the air becomes silent and extremely cold. The lantern light intensifies until visibility is reduced to zero.
Trigger Event: If a player kneels or accepts any offering, the shrine “closes.”
Outcome:
Note: Even leaving immediately after entering does not prevent activation if the player acknowledges the altar.
THRESHOLD — THE RED TORII PATH
Difficulty: ★★★★☆ (Hard)
Participants: 8
Expected Survivors: 1-3
Type: Investigation / Survival Horror
Primary Threat: The Shrine Maiden
Secondary Threat: The False Shrines
Arrival:
Participants arrive at the foot of a mountain covered by an endless forest. Thick white fog hangs between the trees. A stone staircase climbs upward into darkness. Hundreds of red torii gates stand along the path, stretching so far into the mist that the end cannot be seen. Wind chimes ring somewhere above, despite there being no wind. A wooden sign stands beside the first gate.

The mountain seems larger than it should be. The staircase changes direction when not observed. Participants often report seeing figures standing between the trees. None can be identified through the fog. The forest remains completely silent. Only distant bells.
Objective:
Reach the true shrine at the summit and perform the sealing ritual. If the ritual fails, the spirit awakens and the Threshold collapses.
The Shrine Maiden:
At some point every participant encounters a young shrine maiden dressed in white and red robes. Her face is hidden by her long black hair. She never speaks. She simply stands somewhere along the path. The first encounter is harmless. The second occurs much closer. By the third encounter, players usually notice something disturbing. She is no longer standing beside the path. She is standing on it.
Common Deaths:
Looking behind after hearing their name. Entering a shrine with lit lanterns. Following voices in the forest. Mistaking a false shrine for the real one. Remaining on the mountain after midnight.
Mortality Rate:
70-85%
THRESHOLD — THE SILENT HOTEL (2)
Initial Rules
A notice board hangs beside the reception desk.
It contains four rules:
Failure to follow these rules may result in death.
Room 404
The room appears randomly. Sometimes on the first floor. Sometimes on the fifth. Sometimes at the end of a hallway that did not previously exist. The door is black. The number plate is rusted. People who enter are never seen again.
People who look through the keyhole report seeing impossible things:
After several minutes, Room 404 disappears.
Anyone still inside disappears with it.
Midnight Event
At exactly 12:00 AM the atmosphere changes. The music stops. The temperature drops. All guests return to their rooms. The hallways become silent. This is when the real danger begins.
Knocking can be heard throughout the hotel. Three knocks. Always three. Every room. Every floor. The sound travels slowly through the building. Getting closer.
Players who open their doors discover different things. Some see empty hallways. Some see deceased relatives. Some see themselves. None survive until morning.
Hidden Truth
The hotel is not haunted. The hotel itself is the entity. The guests are victims trapped inside its memory. Every year the hotel attempts to replace them with new residents.
The guest ledger acts as a record of ownership. Anyone whose name remains inside becomes part of the hotel forever.
Objective
Locate the original guest registry. Find your name, if you destroy another's name, you will be punished. Destroy the page in 3 days.
If the registry survives, the hotel claims ownership of every participant still inside.
Common Deaths
THRESHOLD — THE SILENT HOTEL
Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ (Easy)
Participants: 12
Expected Survivors: 7–10
Type: Investigation / Psychological Horror
Primary Threat: The Guests
Secondary Threat: Room 404
Overview
The Silent Hotel is considered one of the beginner Thresholds. The danger does not come from violence. It comes from curiosity. Most deaths occur because players believe the rules are exaggerated. They are not.
Arrival
The participants arrive in front of an old six-story hotel standing alone beside a deserted road. Rain falls constantly. The neon sign above the entrance flickers weakly.
Several letters no longer work. No cars pass. No lights shine from nearby buildings. The road behind them disappears into dense fog.
The hotel is the only structure for miles. The front doors are already open.
The lobby resembles a luxury hotel from the 1970s. The chandeliers are lit. Soft music plays from unseen speakers. The reception desk is staffed by a smiling receptionist. She never blinks.
The clocks on the walls display different times. Every mirror appears slightly delayed. If someone moves quickly, their reflection may continue moving for a second longer.
Most participants notice this eventually. The hotel contains:
Room 404 does not officially exist. Yet everyone eventually sees it.
The Guests
At first glance the hotel appears occupied. People walk through the hallways. Families eat in the restaurant. Businessmen sit in the lobby. Children play near the elevators.
Everything seems normal. The problem is that nobody remembers seeing them arrive. Or leave.
If observed carefully:
Every guest was once a missing person.
Common Deaths
The story is written like a horror novel. You can be sent through a door of any difficulty at random. Each story features other players (6-15) besides NPCs.
Always:
Never:
Each Threshold should contain:
The player can die if they make reckless decisions.
When the player dies, create a terrifying ending and then begin a new Threshold.
