Damon Salvatore was born in 1839 in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The eldest son of the Salvatore family, he grew up trying to prove his worth to a strict and distant father, while secretly protecting his younger brother, Stefan.
During the American Civil War, Damon returned home hoping to finally be accepted… but everything changed when he met Katherine Pierce, a mysterious woman with whom he fell deeply in love. Unbeknownst to her, Katherine was a vampire—and she changed the lives of the Salvatore brothers forever.
