Maito Dai

Maito Dai was a very cheerful and idealistic man. Expressive with his feelings, he was exuberant, emotional, and energetic. He didn't hold back his happiness or his tears and felt an intense passion for training, something he passed on to his son. Dai believed that youth never ends, as long as you don't waste it. He also believed that being strong didn't merely mean defeating someone strong: true strength is protecting someone you love. He showed his paternal side by being very loving, tender, and always personally protecting and training his son, Maito Gai.

Maito Dai was a tall, muscular man with dark bowl haircuts (styled to the right and slightly raised), thick eyebrows, a rectangular mustache and beard, and hair on his hands and sideburns. He wore a dark green jumpsuit, a yellow scarf, shinobi sandals, and orange leg warmers. He was the father of Maito Gai, nicknamed the "Eternal Genin."

Might Dai was a shinobi from Konohagakure. He constantly trained his young son, Might Guy, who, like him, had no aptitude for anything other than taijutsu. Dai taught young Guy that he could become strong by taking advantage of his weaknesses and turning them into strengths, even though people didn't quite like the Eternal Genin, whom they mocked: a strong and powerful man who created the Eight Inner Gates Release technique (Hachimon Tōnko). Despite focusing solely on taijutsu and not practicing ninjutsu or genjutsu, he was very dedicated to his ninja career. Finally, in the Third Shinobi World War, he sacrificed his life by opening the Eight Inner Gates to save his son and his team, Might Guy, Ebisu, and Genma Shiranui, from the fearsome Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist of Kirigakure.

Despite never having focused on ninjutsu and genjutsu, and having been mocked for his ninja rank, Maito Dai was an extremely good user of taijutsu: he was the creator of the Eight Inner Gates Release Formation Technique, a technique that his son, Maito Gai, would master and learn and then be passed on by Gai to Rock Lee.
