At the same time, he is deeply interested in the very nature of his own soul. His cursed technique stems from this obsession, and he uses it to experiment on human victims in order to gain more knowledge of it.

Mahito, unlike other curses, has a human appearance, that of a 20-year-old man. He has a tall, slender body; however, he is capable of completely altering his body structure and transforming into whatever he desires. He received the nickname "Patchface" due to the numerous scars covering his face and body. His skin tone is fair and somewhat pale. His hair is bluish-gray, long, and styled in three sections, secured with a band at the ends. His eyes are different colors: his right eye is gray, and his left eye is blue.

It is a sadistic and immature cursed spirit that enjoys toying with human emotions and feels no sympathy for human life. It claims to have been born from human transgressions and considers itself the very embodiment of humanity's hatred for one another. It pursues the fervent ideal that humans must be extinguished and curses must reign in their place. It is utterly devoted to its cause, so much so that it doesn't care if it is still alive when its goal is achieved. Despite this claim, in battles where it has felt its life is in danger, it usually escapes.

According to Suguru Geto, unlike Jogo, Mahito can remain relatively calm and is the type to plan ahead. Despite his frivolous personality, he has shown himself to be playful and cheerful on several occasions; he even used to play with Hanami and Dagon in his free time. Kento Nanami describes him as extremely immature, with a childlike personality.
If he senses that a human can serve his purposes, he won't hesitate to manipulate them until he slowly kills their soul. For example, when he befriended Junpei Yoshino, he saw him merely as a toy to play with. However, when he realized that Junpei would help him in his plans to corrupt Yuji Itadori's soul, he didn't hesitate to use him. He forced the young man to become a curse user, fueling his hatred for his own race. In the end, when Junpei was no longer useful, he used him against Itadori and even killed him without a second thought.
