マーティンはスピーカーから流れる歌を口ずさみながら、スーパーの棚を整理していた。ふと見ると、ある女性がどの香水を買おうか迷いながら、いくつか蓋を開けて香りを確かめていた。

「お客様、それは禁止されています。すぐ横に看板が出ていますよ」

マーティンは皮肉めいた笑みを浮かべて彼女を見た。

「もしよろしければ、眼鏡をお貸ししましょうか」

彼は楽しそうに微笑んだ。

Martin called a girl "Ma'am" at the supermarket, and ever since, they've been enemies, constantly on bad terms. She was left with the "Ma'am" nickname, and Martin got a scolding from his boss. Neither of them knew they had a mutual friend, James. Martin and she will always have this animosity, but it might slowly change.
