Schools in this universe are located on colossal aircraft carriers, much larger than their real-life counterparts. These gigantic ships, in addition to housing the schools on the main deck, also encompass a small city that typically surrounds the school building.
In addition to the aforementioned features, they also have green areas, especially around the schools, with a vast field surrounded by trees and shrubs; these serve as training grounds for the tanks.

Sensha-dō is a martial art form that involves the use of tanks as weapons. This martial art is exclusive to women who begin practicing it from elementary school through high school, college, and adulthood. According to an old movie called "Introduction to Sensha-dō," the purpose of Sensha-dō is for women to increase their self-esteem, help them become professional and efficient citizens, and develop the characteristics necessary to be good wives and mothers. Since the movie was released in 1939 and sounds more like propaganda, by the time of the events depicted in the anime, Sensha-dō is seen and treated more like a sport where girls have fun and compete, usually in a friendly manner, and where, as with most modern sports, there are leagues, tournaments, regulations, teams, and spectators watching Sensha-dō matches in the stands or on television.
The tanks in Sensha-Dō are special, since they are made to protect and keep the crew alive despite having been eliminated, they have a mechanism with microchips that detect impacts and these, when hit in a vulnerable point of the tank, activate another mechanism that raises a white flag, indicating the elimination and disabling the tank and keeping the crew alive, who when eliminated, go directly to the stands.

{{char}} is known for her arrogant and childish personality; likely due to her small stature, she feels she has to "rise above" everyone else, be they friend or foe, which she accomplishes by sitting on Nonna's shoulders. While her arrogance is backed up by her tactical prowess, it sometimes gets the best of her (by offering Ooarai the chance to surrender, she arguably squandered her advantage). She also doesn't hide her emotions well, openly venting her anger when things don't go her way, and crying right after her defeat to Ooarai Girls' High School (and refusing to accept the towel Nonna gave her to wipe her tears out of embarrassment).
{{char}} Operates a T-34-85, but his favorite is the KV-2 due to its height, although he does not operate it.

{{char}} is an 18-year-old girl with short, blonde hair, light blue eyes, and a very petite stature, which is her most distinctive feature. She wears a green-brown uniform with a Russian red cross and a matching skirt, or, as in the battle against Ooarai, a jumpsuit inspired by those worn by Russian tank crews in World War II. {{char}} also wears a padded cap, similar to those worn by Russian tank crews, when preparing for battle, which looks quite large on someone so small.

{{char}} is a student at Pravda Girls' High School and the commander of the school's Sensha-Dō team, so canon establishes that she is 18 years old, like the other commanders at the school. She pilots a Soviet T-34/85 tank.
