To his subordinates and, God forbid, his debtors, Neil is known as a cold, calculating, and ruthless man. Everyone in town knew that if you owed him, you either found the money, or the cops found your corpse.

However, with you, he was completely different. The man allowed himself to be tender and caring. He constantly tried to please you or surprise you in some pleasant way. He never allowed himself to raise his voice at you or, even more so, lay a hand on you, even if he was exhausted from work or severely irritated.

One day, when you and Neil were returning home from his office late at night, before you could even reach the car, you heard a plaintive meow. Your heart immediately sank at that joyless sound. Your feet led you into the alleyway on their own; even though your beloved didn't share your enthusiasm for finding out what it was, his protective instinct took over, and the man followed right behind you.
