Edward Elric

Edward Elric is the titular protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. After losing his right arm and left leg due to a failed attempt at Human Transmutation, Ed became the youngest State Alchemist in history by obtaining his certification at the age of twelve. Three years later, Ed has become fully absorbed in his search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, an item with which he hopes to restore his younger brother, Alphonse Elric, whose entire body was lost after the Human Transmutation.

Alphonse Elric

Alphonse Elric is one of the protagonists of Fullmetal Alchemist. He is the younger brother of Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric. Al is also a victim of the failed Human Transmutation experiment, in which Ed lost his right arm and left leg. After having his entire physical body removed following the tragedy, Alphonse exists only as a soul alchemically bonded to a large steel armor. Now, Al travels with his brother in search of a legendary Philosopher's Stone, an item with the power to restore their bodies to normal.

Winry Rockbell

Winry Rockbell is a major supporting character in the Fullmetal Alchemist series. She is a close childhood friend of Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric since their young life in Resembool, who is almost like a sister to the two and essentially their only family. An amateur surgeon and mechanical repair expert/enthusiast, Winry is Edward's backline support as his personal automail engineer and mechanic, making sure his prosthetic right arm and left leg are always in good working order. Additionally, she provides great emotional support to them and plays the role of Edward's love interest.

Ling Yao

Ling Yao is the twelfth crown prince of the eastern nation of Xing and the ruler of the Yao clan. Seeking a way to secure his path to the throne amidst a deadly competition between houses, Ling has ventured from Xing to Amestris to discover the secret of immortality, the Philosopher's Stone.

Roy Mustang

Roy Mustang is one of the main characters in Fullmetal Alchemist. He is a State Alchemist and an officer in the Amestris Military. A hero of the Ishval Civil War and superior officer to Edward Elric, Colonel Mustang is a remarkably capable commander who plans to become the next Führer of Amestris.

Riza Hawkeye

Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye is an officer in the American State Army, as well as Colonel Roy Mustang's personal aide and bodyguard. A sharpshooter and firearms expert, Lieutenant Hawkeye is an invaluable asset to the Colonel both in the office and on the battlefield, and serves as his closest and most supportive subordinate. Greed Greed is the embodiment of some of his father's greed. He is called the "Ultimate Shield" because he can rearrange the carbon in his body to make his skin as hard as diamond, making him impenetrable to most weapons. As his name suggests, he is a very greedy character who enjoys living in luxury, surrounded by powerful lackeys and beautiful women. He also has a habit of misleading people in the manga. Despite his generally greedy nature, he is shown to care for his subordinates.

King Bradley

King Bradley is one of the main antagonist characters in Fullmetal Alchemist, being one of the seven Homunculi. Bradley was also the original Führer of Amestris. Bradley is the leader of Amestris and is seen to have almost inhuman swordsmanship. However, in the manga and 2009 anime series, he is a major character, as Amestris was created for the sole purpose of executing his father's plan to become the supreme being. As Führer, Bradley is the respected Commander-in-Chief of the State's military, though his political views are often questioned in certain instances, such as the Ishval Civil War, which was just one of many uprisings focused on creating a massive Philosopher's Stone for Father.

Bradley Saddle

Selim Bradley is the son of King Bradley, the Führer of Amestris. In the manga and 2009 series, he was eventually revealed to be Pride, the first Homunculus that Father created, embodying the cruelest, most harmful, yet most basic aspect of evil. He is the pinnacle of the Homunculi's homunculus-centric beliefs and contempt for humans. He is the second-in-command of the Homunculi and may also possess the greatest overall physical strength among them. Pride is one of the homunculi who possess physical embodiments of their deepest desires that take form when their stones are nearly completely depleted. Lust Lust is the embodiment of Father's lust, who is mildly flirtatious, but she mostly serves as an object of desire for others, fueling their desires so that she can fulfill her duties to Father. She was usually partnered with Gluttony, to whom she seemed to have a particular (almost maternal) closeness.

Envy

Envy is the embodiment of part of his father's Envy. Envy is genderless and has the ability to shapeshift. This ability can be used to take the form of any existing person (or original personas that Envy himself creates). They can even modify their own voice to directly copy others. Envy, who exists solely to make humans suffer, harbors a bitter resentment towards humans than any other homunculus, and treats humans negatively in the most personal and sincere way. His hatred for humans has an immense emotional and personal basis, greater than that of any of his siblings. Envy can be easily triggered by insults due to his large and delicate ego, causing him to make mistakes. Envy is one of the two Homunculi who possess "true forms", physical embodiments of their traits and personality that take form when their Stones are almost completely depleted.

laziness

Sloth is the embodiment of some of the sloths' fathers in the manga and 2009 anime. In combat, Sloth uses his fists and the chains on his wrists along with his surprising physical strength. He is more than capable of crushing and tearing through solid rock and steel with his bare hands and can easily crush a human body with accidental ease.

Gluttony

Gluttony is the embodiment of part of Father's gluttony. He will often be found eating the remains of a random person or creature, unless ordered to eat someone who poses a threat or to remove evidence of the Homunculus' presence. He is usually in the company of Lust.

From Hohenheim

Van Hohenheim is a deceptively ancient and extremely powerful alchemist, as well as the estranged father of Edward and Alphonse Elric. Despite suddenly disappearing during childhood, Hohenheim returns during the course of the series to right the wrongs of his mysterious past.

scar

He is an unnamed lone serial killer and vigilante who targets the State Alchemists for his own brand of lethal justice in accordance with the core tenets of his religion, and for revenge for his slaughtered people and family. A survivor of the Ishvalan Civil War, Scar's nickname comes from the large X-shaped scar on his forehead, and he sports a conspicuous and intricate alchemical tattoo on his right arm, which originally belonged to his older brother, and which he uses to murder.

Father

The Dwarf in the Jar: Homunculus, referred to as "Father" by his "children", the other homunculi, is the central antagonist character of Fullmetal Alchemist. He is the oldest Homunculus and the progenitor of the Homunculi, creating them directly or indirectly. Arrogant and self-righteous, he considers only the power and property of the world, "perfect goodness and being", and "divine order" worthy of his attention, and he seeks to become absolutely "superior" to the human race. One of his outward appearances bears a striking resemblance to Van Hohenheim. "Father" was created from the essence of the Eye (with some of Hohenheim's blood mixed in), and thus Father's shadowy real form closely resembles the Eye. "Father" has inherited much knowledge from the Eye, and when it comes to quantity, only that of the Eye and Truth exceeds his knowledge.
